Who is emma based on

Leslie van houten or linda kasabian?

reply

I think a cross between both since neither are on the show. In the flash forward Emma has blood on her hands like she killed someone like Leslie did but of course Linda didn't since she didn't go in the house but Emma is also upset about it like Linda was supposedly.

I think Emma is just supposed to be a composite of the typical Manson girl- young, runaway, impressionable.

But Linda was briefly shown last night. When they were sitting in Dennis Wilson's pad & watching the announcement of MLK's assassination. She was sitting next to Charlie on the floor & Charlie says something to her- & calls her Linda.

reply

Her being named Linda is just a coincidence I believe, since the timing isn't right for her to be Linda Kasabian. Linda came only a month before the murders in July of 1969, King was murdered in April of 1968.

Yeah I think that is correct. They created the fictional Emma character so they had carte blanche to develop her character.
While the show is based on the true events surrounding Charlie Manson, the writers necessarily had to use creative license to describe the back story leading up to the horrid events of 1969.
Emma allows them to create a narrative connecting Det. Hodiak with the Manson gang. That is the one of the main plot lines of the show. Emma is a plot device for giving the Manson family context. That back story has to be fictional; there just isn't enough detailed history of the Manson family to make a purely representation of that part of the show.

Showing Emma at the Tate home is fictional, a creative departure from the factual historical account. After all, Charlie Manson was not there either, but in the show we see him there.

Actually he did go to the house after the murders to clean up a bit. (In her court testimony Linda says something about this and that he said the murders were too messy which is why he went to LaBianca house with them) That's what we saw in the fast forward. I'm guessing on the show Emma goes to help with it.

Thanks. didn't know that

He did not.

reply

Yes he did. It doesn't matter if you believe it or not but it did happen

Show me court room transcript that says that. He was there months before killings

reply

Yeah like I have access to courtroom transcripts but there are several documentaries on the case and some say that. Yes he was there months before the killings when it was Melcher's house and went there again to find out that Roman and Sharon were living there at the time but he went back and cleaned up some after the killings.

I would say Linda, since she did seem to have some conscience about it, and Emma does too.
Leslie had no regret, til it served her purpose.
Leslie was one of the main ones, at trial, laughing and loving every minute of what she did. Can't believe she was recently recommended for parole.

reply

Agree with you on Leslie ..she had no regret at all! The only time she felt bad was when she found out she wasn't gonna get out of jail! I think it's a composite if the whole Manson girl thing too.

reply

I really think she's more like Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme. From what I remember when I read "Helter Skelter" when I was about 10 (started off my crime/ serial killer psychology fascination, I think-I'm 56). Doesn't Gethin Anthony get scary each episode? VERY well-played. How good is he-from Renly B. to psycho Chuck! Glad I 'saved' show for summer to binge on! AWESOME Music!!!

reply

Gethin plays a mentally disturbed person pretty well. Is kind of scary, how natural he comes across for the role sometimes.

reply

A composite of many more minor family members.

Thats a clown question , BRO.......

CLOSE the FRIGGEN BORDER ALREADY!!!

reply

I don't think she is supposed to be anyone specific

Leslie Van Houton did not take part in the Manson "family" murders of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others in 1969 but did participate in the killings of grocer Leno La Bianca and his wife, Rosemary, the next day.

We're finding Emma on the scene of the Tate murders; she can't be based on Leslie Van Houton.

reply

Emma is not based on anyone I believe. The scene we see in the show takes place when Manson goes back to clean up the murder scene and I'm guessing in the show he takes Emma with him, I don't think they are going to have it where Emma takes part in the murders.
