Sorry, you are right. What I remember from history class was the campaign cry "Get Clean for Gene!" and Yippies rioting outside the Chicago convention. And apparently, the Democratic candidate was so weak that my Dad (now a Democrat) actually voted for Nixon. To be honest, I realized after following your link that I had been mentally confusing Humphrey with Dewey (who was once falsely headlined to have beaten Truman), and McCarthy with Humphrey.
