He's pretty much a professional not quite as f'd up version of Hank Moody.. Even uses one or two of the same style expressions I've noticed including dropping in titty twisters so its probably just duchovny being duchovny as a cop

I've noticed that on season 2 Hodiak became a bit like Hank Moody.
There's a scene of someone boring him with a speech and we can see him doing a gesture like he's wanking, that's classic Moody.
