Love Hodiak's zingers

"What, do I have a hole in my hose?" LOL

reply

'I'm not positive, but I don't think I'd get married again if it cured cancer'.

I loved that one too, which is kind of ironic because here I sit, the age Emma would be if she were still alive, divorced since 1992, and battling cancer.

Hodiak to Manson:
"I was an altar boy. Don't quote scripture to me and pretend you came up with it."

reply

Doctor: "I didn't 'get your name."

Hodiak: "That's okay, I got yours."

reply

HA!

And even though Hodiak didnt say this the other night, it made me chuckle when they asked about the BAC of the drunk guy, and someone said, "Irish!"
LOL, pretty "un-PC" for this day and age...but the status quo back then! 

reply

Hodiak: What? Is there a run in my stockings?

Wonder if some of those comebacks are David adlibbing

Often it seems like he's channeling his smartass character in "Californication." Was he a wisecracker on the "X Files?"

reply

Yes, Mulder could be smartass. Although I don't find his character at all like Hank on Californication.

reply

I don't think Sam is like Hank, personality-wise. For one thing, Hank seemed to take most things and people as a joke. Sam, otoh, seems very affected by and concerned about his cases and the turmoil of the time. But some of Sam's smartass comments remind me of Hank - the quick wit and irreverence toward authority especially.

People forget that the Beatniks, Hell's Angels, and Swingers, from which would emerge the 60's counter culture have their beginnings in the massive social upheaval that WWII brought, not to mention the effects of being in war. They didn't have PTSD or "alcoholics" back then. It was called "being a man". People talk about the trauma of D-Day, but if you were a Marine in the Pacific Theater of Operations like Sam Hodiak was, it was D-Day every week. It was also the precursor of the nasty wars to come in Asia...Koran War, then Vietnam. Hodiak could very well be Mulder's grandfather as well as Hank Moody's grandfather.

On the beach with his girlfriend after he quit the LAPD:
"Well, I could use a little color I've been thinking about joining the Panthers"
Not PC now, but he was friends with Bunchy and Schafe's wife, so maybe PC then.

reply

HA! I'll miss Hodiak...I know the show hasn't officially been cxld, but burnin' the Eps off 2 at a time on a Sat night is not a good sign! :-(
