Thoughts on Charlie and Emma?

I think there seriously in love and that they belong together.

LOL right? I love your post ChrisCuda - like Charles Manson deserves any kind of "love interest" - Emma is just crazy and will not let go - I only watched first few minutes of 10 so far, want to finish so I can watch episode 11. Charles Manson did a very good "brainwash" on this girl, I thought Emma would ask for Dennis NOT Charlie.. Did she forget about Dennis already b/c they spent a lot of time w/each other and yeah Charlie looked jealous but that is b/c he wanted to keep "controlling Emma". Charles Manson is disgusting piece of *beep* who deserves no love at all !!

The word love in all its meanings does not seem to me to describe either Emma's or Charlie's feelings for each other. Maybe "infatuation" or "obsession" would fit better.

I have a question about Ken. Why the hell would a highly intelligent professional guy like him escort his daughter back to a sick loser like Manson and then stay with the "family" in such conditions? That makes absolutely no sense to me, even if he has the hots for Charlie.

It looked like Emma might have a chance of a normal life after getting sprung from the sanitarium. With Ken's career in CA now ruined and his former client mentioning New York, it seemed like he might take her far away to someplace where they could both get a fresh start. Of course, that wouldn't fit with the show and upcoming murders, but still - is he just one of the worst parents ever? Or too F'd up to know right from wrong?

Having lived in communes during that time, there were always a couple of older guys and occasionally an older woman who had abandoned the so called rat race for the simple life. There were many more young people who left the hippy movement to become yuppies. It didn't always make sense.

Google Ruth Ann Morehouse. Her father came after Charlie and the family to get her back (she was only 14 or 15 when she joined them). He was so impressed with Manson that he let his daughter stay. Angela Landsbury wrote her teenage daughter Diedre a note that she could travel with the family. It's a truly bizarre case. Hippies weren't out killing people, so I guess everyone felt their kids would be safe.

I think Ken felt free to be himself with the family. Manson used drugs and the girls (in Ken's case men) to win them over....to use and control them. Ken could pursue his wild desires there.

We know a lot of Aquarius is fiction, but things went on in the late 60's/70's that would outrage people today and are hard to believe. There were parents who were already screwed up like Ken who couldn't take care of their children. When Angela Lansbury was mentioned, I thought of examples of famous people like Robert Downey, Jr. and MacKenzie Phillips - that was a nice one. Those examples are bad, but not compared to the Manson family, however, it's an example of how certain lifestyles were accepted at that time. It wasn't just LA, but all over the country. Didn't you see the movie 'Almost Famous'? Cameron Crowe's mother let him quit school and go on tour with bands when he was 15. Can you imagine that happening today? It was a different time where people of all ages were changing, plus there was a lot of drug use and little accountability which allowed a Charlie Manson to thrive.
