Vietnam and Nixon, herion addicted partner, anonymous serial killer, homosexuality taboo, black panthers and interracial marriage, women's rights.... All while telling a behind the scenes Manson back story and solving a homicide every episode.
I know the 60s was a complicated decade, but it is only an hour drama.
They do squeeze quite a bit into less than an hour. That's what makes it interesting. At least to me.
shareI agree with you but unfortunately I think they try to squeeze it all in at once since they have a limited time frame to show everything that they want. The 60's were chaos and interesting and I wish they were given a better chance to continue this show, it has great potential but they always seem to cancel things that just don't deserve it.

shareBizarrely enough I find the Manson plot the least interesting, I'm wondering if they just used it as a selling point for the series when what they wanted to do was a police procedural set in the 60s.
shareI'm with you. I am not interested in the least in the Manson part of the show. So many times I have wished that the time spend on that part of the show had been spent on the other parts.

McNamara said his intial vision was the partnering of a older cop w/ a younger cop procedural but didn't know how to bring the two together so he figured Manson was a good way, which puzzles me. The Manson aspect is the least appealing and why a lot of ppl didn't give the show a chance. The Hodiak/Shafe partnership, Shafe's family life set in this time period and the case of the week is why I tune in. I actually fast forward thru the Manson family scenes that don't involve Hodiak or Shafe.
