BOX OFFICE: OVER A BILLION

At this point, Rogue One is second biggest hit in 2016 with global box office
$1 030 049 573.

And doing so, Rogue One beat both Finding Dory and Zootopia.

EVEN BIGGER question is now, has Rogue One enough power to beat Captain America? My personal opinion is that R1 cannot beat Captain America, which has over 1,150 billion dollars in global box office.

I am a fan of TV crossovers. It connects different shows and puts them into same universe

No. There's been no chance for a while now. With breakdowns (domestic/foreign) as they are. R1 would need to make more than $575m domestic. It just isn't there.

reply

What matters is that it beat all of the prequels lol

For a pointless spin-off about nothing it's quite impressive and it shows how much of a failure the prequels were

reply

The overseas box office is considerably larger than when the prequels were released.

China alone has grown from a box office of roughly $80m in 1999 to now being $6.76b.

reply

The prequels (the first one of which is now nearly 20 years old so adjust for ticket price inflation) were never released in 3D during their original releases, nor was the global market as expansive as it is now.

Proof that making a quality film doesn't matter anymore in Hollywood and you can still make crap loads of money off of cynical cash grabs like this.

and a BILLION less than the previous star wars.

Well, yeah. It looks like it will end with $1.05-1.06 billion.

Who really cares whether Rogue One : a Star Wars Story can beat Captain America : Civil War. All the box office net goes to the same place.

Captain America : Civil War
Marvel Studios
a wholly owned subsidiary of the . . .

Rogue One : a Star Wars Story
Lucas Films Ltd.
a wholly owned subsidiary of the . . .

House of Mouse.

Thus, the Mice get it all in the end.

Now you know why Disney paid $4 billion for the property.

I dont know what you all are talking about. All it needs is to 1.2 billion worldwide to be the biggest film of 2016 and its already at 1.1 billion. All it needs is another 20 million from several other countriea (including what it will still get in america, and by the time they shut these forums down, rogue 1 will be #1 worldwide of 2016.

Ummm, no. R1 is at $1.04b not $1.1b. And it's not going to get $60m more, much less $112.6m to become the #1 movie, or the $159m it would need to reach $1.2b.

1. Captain America 3 $1,153,304,495
2. Rogue One $1,041,742,009

It would need to make at least $581m+ in the US at the current split, and it's only becoming more US dominant right now.
