Didn't like the attempt to make the rebels ambiguous

Saw this last night. Star Wars is space opera, not The Hurt Locker. Seemed forced as well. The directory obviously wanted to draw ties to current day terrorist/insurgencies with the healthy mix of "swarthy" rebel spies.

Rebels can't be pure like snow. So it was more realistic that way.

Why not?

So it was more realistic that way.

Yes, realistic - and inconsistent with what came before.

How so?

- Luke blew up a gigantic space station with millions of people on it
- Wedge and Lando blew up an even bigger space station
- Poe Dameron destroyed a planet
- Han shot first

These scenes were all handled in a lighthearted, exciting way. Doesn't change the fact that they killed millions of people. And Greedo.

Also, a Jedi blew up Jabba's sail barge at the botched execution. Han shooting first is totally legit, though.

So much for it being "Disnyfied," eh?

There's nothing wrong with it being both.

Yeah it treats the material much more seriously and drawing parallels to our world. Especially Jedha was a bit like a middle east insurgency. And the whole Rebels aren't really good, which goes against the more simple good vs evil of the OT. It's a different style of movie for sure, but that's what fans could have expected in this day and age where realism and gray areas are popular instead of innocent escapism.

I just think they were hearkening back to classic World War II films from the '60s like The Dirty Dozen and The Guns of Navarone. Navarone in particular has a scene with a (SPOILERS) female Nazi collaborator and one discussion in particular between Gregory Peck and David Niven that have clear parallels with Rogue One.
