Did they really use a Space Balls planetary shield?

Ugh, and if you've got a ship called a "hammerhead corvette" why not "ram the ring" directly instead of going for the Paul Newman trickshot off 2 star destroyers?

I did love that they had the Y-wings use ion weapons against it.

why not "ram the ring" directly
Because that wouldn't work.

So ramming it with one ship works, but ramming it with another ship doesn't?

Well that Star Destroyer's shields were down because it was disabled. That's why the ship was able to crash into the hull.

I wonder though, how the X-Wings were able to destroy the laser turret towers on the shield ring but the Y-Wings were bombing the actual center shield.

It's not like it's the first time a shield has been placed around a large object in the Star Wars Universe ... ?

It's also not like spaceballs was a complete parody or SW anyway?

I don't get why this is even a concern?
