Is the pharmacist surviving a bite supposed to be important?
Was it just a fluke or is it supposed to be a lead-in to some plotline about developing a vaccine from his blood a la ZNation?

shareCould play a part in the future no way of knowing. However what makes me think that it won't is because we haven't seen something similar to it on TWD yet , and they've met there fair share of survivors.
shareI Think He Got Bite By The Drug Addict High On Some Bath Saltz Type *beep* And Thought It Was A Walker, Since There Were Walkers Attacking ...
shareIf it was just a junkie that bit him, they would need to show that to the audience at some point.
Otherwise it would be a major piece of bullshït to just let it hang.
but even if he was immune to the bacteria/virus in the bite it wouldn't matter. that's not what makes you a zombie. they're all zombies already. they just haven't had it triggered by dying yet. that dude they met in TWD in S1 explained it (gov lab).
cure people dying from a bite? ok. they then fall on something sharp, bleed to death and still become a zombie.
Exactly, I don't understand all this excitement about a possible immunity to a bite. Nor for a cure, for that matter.
The bite gives an extremely lethal form of 'flu' but it's not the direct cause of the turning.
Everybody be cool. You be cool.

And who says one type of immunity doesn't mean total immunity?
Jenner could be wrong. He clearly didn't know everything about the virus.

Lets see, Jim wouldn't have died. Sophia may not have died. Hershel wouldn't have lost his leg. T-Dog wouldn't have died. Andrea wouldn't have died. Tyrese wouldn't have died. Eastman wouldn't have died. Morgan's wife wouldn't have died. Chris' mom Liza wouldn't have died. Strand's bf Thomas wouldn't have died. etc.
Yes, a lethal bite is meaningless. 😐

yes i can. watch the show. a whisper from the CDC guy to rick at the end of S1 later expanded on in S2 where he reveals it doesn't matter how they die. they already have been infected with the zombie virus. the zombie bite is something akin to a komodo dragons bite. full of nasty bacteria (zombies are rotting away after all) so batters your immune system and kills you. it's the virus you already carry that makes you come back as a walker.

This is a spoiler but you were asking for it. Jenner, who has been studying the virus for quite a time, has whispered that everyone is a carrier. The virus is activated when someone dies. Meanwhile, in my source, there's a sneak peek for the season 2 finale of the walking dead
full of nasty bacteria (zombies are rotting away after all)
A zombie bite activates whatever everyone has been infected with. Until then it's dormant, but everyone's immunity has been compromised that's why even getting a cold can become fatal very quickly.
The show has given a lot of explanations that might not make any sense at first, but if you re-watch all the seasons it's all there. Also the characters do not know everything, they figure it out over time.

If you've watched the show and I think you should re-watch the first 3 seasons then you might know what I'm talking about.

I gave you an advice. Now take it and shove it up your ass.

The Zombie bite just gives you the "fever" which kills you. Then you reanimate as a walker.
It doesn't so much as trigger anything, just makes you really sick and then you die.
Any form of death that doesn't destroy the brain causes you to reanimate as a walker.
The only time (from the books) that i recall anyone coming close to surviving the fever was Rick, when Negan ordered his guys to use weapons covered in walker blood to give Rick's group the fever in the hopes of killing them.
Rick got ill if i remember right but managed to pull through and survive.
A fever isn't a disease. It's the body reacting to something (virus, bacteria, etc) attacking the body and the body tries to fight it off by elevating its temperature which can kill the pathogen that is attacking the body or can kill the person. Depending on the cause of a fever - most fevers don't kill the person, but if whatever's causing the fever is stronger than the body can handle yes it will kill you because the temperature will keep elevating itself to try to kill it off. Obviously the trigger (if you want to use that word) comes from the zombies since whatever is dormant in the living is animated in the dead is full of those pathogens, which seems like it's not necessarily in the blood as it is in the bite or scratch.
That's one of the reason why they knew they were all infected - because the blood getting on their eyes, mouth, etc wouldn't make them turn, but a scratch or bite would.

But being bitten kills you, which allows you to turn. Being bitten and _not_ dying or turning is a Big Deal, if it's true. Given that this is the second death-cult they've run into in Mexico, I'm reasonably suspicious like just about everyone else.
You know what noone tells you about cooking with the Dark Side? The food is really good!
I think he 'faked' it just to give people hope. To draw people to him so that HE could survive. To build a community that HE could control instead of being controlled by, say, that drug gang in the grocery/warehouse.
I think it will come out he's a fake and the community will collapse.

they are already infected but even a bite from a zombie is lethal. it's like some komodo dragon type of stuff. you will eventually die from the bite.
so this is big stuff because the dude isn't dying from a zombie nite.
You can't persuade fanboys. You'd be better off trying to convince a wall. ~CodeNamePlasmaSnake~
That isn't how the immune system works in the show through. People are shot, stabbed, cut and burnt... WITHOUT any serious risk of turning.
Only bites do this!
Ergo... the bite is more that just an open wound that gets infected leading to death. Something else is going on. The bite is clearly doing something.
We have seen multiple people die without bites that turned. At least one was just illness. That kid in the prison, he died in the shower (presumably swine flu, turned, a ate a few of the refugees from Woodbury. They have been intentionally vague about the process, but we do know everyone is infected and if you die without traumatic brain injury then you turn. I imagine the bites would be lethal for a variety of reasons like infection, bacteria and illness, both from the zombie and from not being able to have proper medical treatment.
shareEven if he has immunity to dying from a zombie bite, that doesn't mean that he necessarily has any immunity to becoming a zombie after dying from some other cause.
I don't believe he was bitten by an actual undead. I think he's lying or mistaken. It was more likely someone sick or on drugs, etc... We'll see.
Finally, Kirkman has been adamant that there never has been nor ever will be any intent to have a storyline about any type of cure or vaccine.
This answer is the best one! I believe this too.
I think the concept presented is that this guy is able to fight off the infection from the zombie bite so he doesn't die. But, like everyone else, upon his death if his brain is intact he will return as a walker. Walker, Texas Ranger? No, but that would be even cooler. If they can get Chuck Norris to come on just for one small appearance as a walker that would pretty much be the coolest easter egg of all time.
I also think the guy is faking it.
