Which came first?
FtWD deciding to write Chris out of the series
or
him getting the offer to start working on M:AoS and FtWD deciding to allow him to do so and thus find some way to kill off his character?

Agents of Shield was filmed over the summer so probably Fear
shareI can surmise why everyone is speculating the first choice but even if AoS was filmed over the summer, wouldn't Lorenzo James Henrie have had to met with AoS production staff ahead of time to see if he can meet their production timelines, possibly audition to see if they really liked him after all, sign the contract, etc. but more importantly wouldn't AoS writing crew have had to had penned his new AoS character into the series as well (or they already had at that point and just needed an actor to fill the role which they got Lorenzo to do?)
It just seems like Chris' death scene was so hastily put together the way it was that is seems to reek of FtWD rushing the production of that scene possibly due to his limited availability already at that point.
His appearances on Talking Dead he's seemed pretty happy about working on the show.
So far he's only had that 15 second scene getting out of the vehicle on AoS.
And FTWD has a longer future. Slightly better ratings and being on cable means it's going to be around longer.
It just seems like Chris' death scene was so hastily put togetherYou ever see TWD? Half the characters get killed off out of nowhere.
He was never signed up to do more episodes. Also, actors can do more than one project if timing is not an issue.
shareObviously, the first option.

The first one, which explains why the actor took the role on AoS.
