Just saw the world premier at Tiff

It is an excellent film. Fantastic acting and direction. You might see this during awards season. Ask any questions!

How was Nicole Kidman's performance ? How much screen time does she have ? Do you think it is awards worthy ? she is getting a lot of buzz already for a best supporting actress nomination.

reply

Nicole Kidman was excellent. There's a shot for an Oscar, but a lot of films haven't been released yet. Dev Patel was absolutely amazing. Definetly Oscar worthy, but it's hard to know if he'll get nominated with so many movies still to come out

reply

Dev has always been amazing in everything I have watched him in. He was the best in Slum Dog Millionaire. Judy Dench and him in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel & The Second Best Exotic Hotel were brilliant. I enjoyed him in the Newsroom, unfortunately it was a Aaron Sorkin creation so we were lucky to get 3 seasons from it.

But from the first I heard of this movie until I could watch the trailer I can't wait to see this movie. Dev Patel is one of my favourite actors.

Critics are good when it is reasonable but it becomes absurd when people do it for fun or jealousy.

Any Oscar worthy performances from the cast?

Can you give us some tea on Nicole Kidman's scenes? What is her supposedly one big scene? How is she in it?

reply

She has quite a few scenes, pretty much what you'd expect. Her one scene is a conversation with Dev Patel, her last scene. I believe it's in the trailer. And yes, she is fantastic in it, if she gets a nom, that'll be her Oscar clip.

reply

How about Rooney Mara?

reply

She was great as expected. She and Dev had good chemistry. One scene where she really delivers

reply

wat about the cinematography ? i noticed in the trailer there are a few aerial shots.

are the indian scenes shot differently to the Australian ones ?

reply

The Indian scenes have more areal shots. I would say the more impressive cinematography came from those scenes

I also saw this film at TIFF and was wowed by everything about it. I was not familiar with the story so it blew me away. I think it has some chances during aware season as it is the type of movie that generates award nominations. Nicole Kidman is very good as is all the cast, especially the 5 year old actor. I was on edge throughout and shed a few tears (hard not to) as it is very touching. I'll be reading the book (A Long Way Home) to see if there are any scenes that were not included in film. I highly recommend it.

I saw it today, and my Goodness, what a marvelous film. This film never aims to manipulate with the audience`s feelings. It`s real and sad story that will reach your heart whether you`re good or a bad person. I watched it during the P&I screening, and I am telling you, many people were crying, including myself. In one scene Nicole Kidman literally delivers one of the best performances. That long monologue was amazing. She does it with such ease. Incredible. The entire film is outstanding. Nothing ever went wrong with this film. CInematography, score, screenplay, directing, performances... everything... everything worked in this film. Many people call it amazing, so am I. GO and see it! I can`t believe how much I cried just because of the film. After LION you don`t want to watch anything else... very sad... truly sad story...

I got to see it yesterday at TIFF. Wow, what an emotional powerhouse of a movie. I teared up many times. The final shot (spoiler) showing the real-life footage of Saroo's two moms meeting each other for the first time was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

reply

I see an Oscar nomination for Kidman as best supporting actress. Maybe best film too, maybe.

reply

How would you rank Kidman's performance with other Kidman performances you saw? Is she better than, say, The Paperboy?

reply

I haven't seen the paperboy, but from what I've seen, this is easily one of her best

reply

Sounds good. Thanks

I just saw Lion today as well and enjoyed it. Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara are barely in the film. Nicole Kidman has one great acting scene but that's about it. She could get a nomination for the performance as the scene was very emotional.

reply

I attended the screening, too. What an amazing film. I balled my eyes out. Stellar performances from Dev Patel, the young actor who played Soree and Nicole Kidman. We will see it come award season time.

reply

Oops, my bad. Saroo was the character Dev portrayed.
