YAWN

This movie isn't targeted for popular appeal. There's a segment of the population for whom stories like this have appeal, and they are the target audience. All of these type of films hope for Academy Award recognition, since it improves their marketability and therefore profit.

These films aren't made purely to try and win awards,that notion is absurd. But if profit was their sole motivator, these movies would unlikely get made at all. There are a lot of people still in Hollywood who genuinely want to tell interesting stories.

As for whether it's good or not remains to be seen. Just because it's not mainstream does not make it good, sure, but the reverse is also true. Looking at the story on which it's based, it's a truly interesting story. It looks like they've put the talent in front of and behind the camera to make a good film

Of course it is original, as it is based on true life, Saroo's actual experience. The movie is based on the book that Saroo wrote. It's not fiction. I can't see how you can call it unoriginal. How many other films out there can you think of where a man find his way home based on his memories and the invention of Google Earth? Come on. Come up with one.
