Best movie I've seen this year

Cried like a baby. I haven't been this moved in a long time. I saw Manchester by the Sea yesterday and loved it. That was my pick for best picture until I saw this. Both real tear jerkers, but knowing this was based on a true story, and you got to see the actual family, put it over the top for me. LOVED IT

I thought only Nocturnal Animals was better. But I haven't seen Moonlight or Manchester yet

I've seen all of those. Manchester by the Sea was tops before I saw Lion. All of them were good though.

It's not out in my area which sucks

I saw an advance screening

I saw Lion and Manchester by the Sea on the same day. I've never cried so much. Both terrific films (though I cried more during Lion). It really had me thinking about what makes a happy ending. I thought Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman were terrific, but the kid, Sunny Pawar, really blew me away.

I saw them a day apart and was completely emotionally drained for a week.

yes i totally agree with you.

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA: 8/10
LION: 9/10

I think this and Manchester by the Sea, while very different films, are about on the same level in terms of quality. Both are well-made, but not quite perfect.

What films do you consider perfect?

It's one of the best movies I've seen this year. This week I saw "La La Land," "Fences," "Manchester by the Sea" and "Lion." I liked "Lion" best. I predict "Lion" will be a strong contender for major Oscars.

I saw Lion yesterday at a movie theater. It was the best film I've seen in a long time. At the end dozens of people were crying, including me. Very moving but a strong message of hope in the story. That helps!

I wasn't a fan of Manchester by the Sea. But I did like Lion. I mean, not my favorite movie ever or anything...but especially the first half, I was very riveted. And it was sad at the end seeing the clips of the real guy, and the situation with the brother...

So yeah, Lion is worth watching, I'd say!
