Both pieces of mediocrity coincidentally have same score of 69 on Metacritic.
This one stands no chance though, going against three black films.

I haven't seen this film so no arguments about mediocrity but three things:
Lion has not won oscar yet like Crash, and as you said it has less chances.
69 is not that bad score. It implies generally positive reviews.
Neither oscar nor metacritic is a certified standard for deciding whether movie is great or not. So cheers to that!
