Is it only going to be all about them trying to kill Kong?

Because from the latest trailer, that is all I come away with. They discover Kong and set out to kill him. Don't even hear any character in the trailer saying the typical "no we can't do that". Maybe Hiddles or John Goodman's character will at least valiantly try to keep them from destroying Kong? One would hope???
I wouldn't even want to see it if it just killing the giant Gorilla.
Without spoilers, does anyone know? There has to be more story line to it right?
But films these days you never know.

I hope not. i want to see many other creatures on the island too for a start.

I assume they went to Skull Island for other reasons, and Kong just happened to be there. He's likely highly territorial. The humans probably fight him to try and get what they want.

This might not be true, so take it with a grain of salt. I remember hearing about something called the Titan formula. I wonder if that's anything like the red berries from KING KONG VS GODZILLA (1962)? Possibly something the Russians want to use, and the Americans rush to get it first. Only the result of that formula, Kong, gets in their way. But don't take my word for it, this was basically sewn together from rumors. Might have been interesting, though.

My speculation is they run afoul of another deadly monster on the island and the climax is Kong fighting it. I think this is one of the plot points of a book, "Kong of Skull Island" I believe. The author of which sued the studio for stealing his ideas.

Yes, they went to the island to explore, and Kong just happens to be there, according to the plot description.

Although the characters have only come to Skull Island for exploration, a big theme the director has said about this film is man vs nature. I have brought it up in previous threads that it seems Samuel L. Jackson has a vendetta against Kong probably for killing his men. So while most of the characters will be more concerned with escaping from the island, Jackson will be a character who will become obsessed with bringing down this creature like Ahab and Moby Dick. It is a tale of man trying to overpower nature and nature overpowering man.

I imagine that will happen.

to be honest its not even really viable for them to be able to kill a Kong of the size in this film if its just the first few helicopters who arrive

a 100 foot tall ape of the magnitude shown in this trailer would not be effected much at all by any machine guns or even explosives that they would have with them on that attack helicopter

she fell through a hole, and was never seen again

That and surviving the other monsters on the island if any. Good enough for me.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

Actually, it's Weaver (Brie Larson) who doesn't necessarily want them to kill Kong, based on what I've heard in an interview or read somewhere.

I know this sounds dumb, but I am hoping that Godzilla could make a cameo lol.

Either way, Kong: Skull Island is going to be a great movie. Brie Larson is a beyond incredible, phenomenal actress, and the film features an amazing cast including Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and Tom Hiddleston. Also, Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kings of Summer) is a great director, and it's from one of the writers of Godzilla (2014), which is truly the first film in this shared universe.
