QUESTION - Did you Like the 2014 "GODZILLA" Film ?

Since "KONG: SKULL ISLAND" is going to take place in the same universe as it, I am wondering.....Did anyone here like the 2014 "GODZILLA" Movie....YES or NO ?

For me, my own answer is YES. What about everyone else ?

reply

Yes.

Yes I liked it. I have to agree with the majority in saying it was a disappointment when Cranston died off and that Aaron's character wasn't compelling enough to carry the rest of the movie. I also could have done with more Godzilla screen time but I recognized that they were just trying to give Godzilla some prestige. They didn't want him to become like the Transformers movies where we've seen them so much that there's no longer wonder from the effects.

Yes, I think it is really well done movie,
but with "only" one flaw, that will prevent it from being one of those movies
everyone will remember and quote in years to come...
Lack of good and memorable characters,
I get it, they were going for scenario of ordinary people in
extraordinary situations, but I don't believe that is a good reason to make
a dull unlikable characters, and never try to expand those that are at least
somewhat interesting despite most of your movie is centered around them rather
than monsters.
We have some terrific actors that are pretty much reduced to some minor or even
more important roles, but in turn show just couple of times in a whole movie.

Main lead was terrible. It doesn't help either that Aaron Taylor-Johnson couldn't
care less about both movie he was in and role he was doing,
Elizabeth Olsen did her minor role with much more enthusiasm.
Bryan Cranston was too much overacting, his involvement looked much
more promising in trailers...
Most intriguing and at the same time most wasted character in my opinion
was one played by Ken Watanabe, he could have had much bigger role and
screen time.

So yeah, they better get their Ian Malcolm or Han Solo for the sequel.

Definitely agree with your points. Out of all of the characters that survived, Ken Watanabe's Serizawa is one I want to see return but with an expanded role. I would love to see him follow a similar arc to the 1954's version about a man fearful of what devastation man's nuclear weapons will bring and commits a great sacrifice to spare a humanity. As far as a lead goes, they definitely need to cast an actor that has some charisma like a Jack Reynor or Michael B. Jordan. If they go for an actress, I say go for someone like Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

How about Daisy Ridley ?
I think that she would be a very good choice.

reply

Daisy Ridley is gonna be too busy with Star Wars and other projects to have time.

reply

She has already finished filming "EPISODE VIII" and "EPISODE IX" probably won't start filming until the middle of 2018.

reply

I just think that she will want to move onto other genre rather then play the lead in another sci fi franchise.

How would you feel if Daisy Ridley actually did take the Lead Role in the Next Movie ?

reply

If she, by some miracle, was actually interested and got the role it would be a huge step up from Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

reply

I would love to see Sigourney Weaver in supporting role :)

reply

Not a bad choice. Would love to see her in a kaiju film.

I have a feeling that by the end of the year, they will name a director for GODZILLA 2 or are waiting to see how SKULL ISLAND fares, and if it is a success, Legendary just might want to offer Jordan Vogt-Roberts the keys to the rest of the franchise.

We will start seeing casting choices next year (probably late in 2017), then start shooting in 2018. But hell yeah, I would LOVE it if they cast Sigourney Weaver, though with her work on AVATAR 2 and perhaps subsequent sequels, we don't know of her availability.
