After seeing Batman v Superman...

DEAR LORD I really hope this movie is a solid standalone film that doesn't exist only to set up a future crossover.

Well, it has already been stated that Monarch will have a role in this movie (how significant, is the big question at the moment).

reply

If they keep the Monarch stuff subtle and have it actually work with the main plot of the film, it'll be fine. I just don't want random scenes dealing with Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, etc. I just want a standalone adventure involving Kong with some Monarch involvement.

I would prefer if there would only be 1 Godzilla tie-in and it happens at the end of the movie rather there then the entire movie being a setup for Godzilla vs Kong.

reply

Maybe one Godzilla tie-in could work, if it's subtle. I hated how blatant and in-your-face the Justice League setups were in BvS.

Setup frustration aside how was the movie?

I recently posted my review for it. You can find it in this link below.

Overall, I was disappointed. There are moments to like but it suffers a lot from the same problems Age of Ultron and Amazing Spider-man 2 had.

reply

Thanks.

Slim chances of enjoying it if you don't like Snyder's action scenes, right?

reply

Snyder's action scenes were one of the few great moments in the movie. The Batman/Superman fight definitely ranks up there with one of the best superhero fights but everything else that is plot-wise is poorly structured.

reply

I found the film pretty disappointing as well. It's certainly not as bad at the RT score would suggest, but there is a LOT of wasted potential. It's sloppily put together and has a pretty awkward flow.

Also, the actual showdown between the two superheroes was quite underwhelming, despite being entertaining.

You're far from the only one who's worried about that. i haven't seen Batman v Superman but from what i've read it's pretty underwhelming.

if the whole point is for this film to be a set up for said directors pet project [K v G] then it will suck BIG time. this is supposed to be a Kong film after all not a Toho or Godzilla film.

Saw it and I have to agree with what has already been said about BATMAN V. SUPERMAN. However, because of it's title, it was never meant to be a stand along Batman film, or a Mos II. SKULL ISLAND will be a Kong flick with Monarch hopefully being all so subtle.

A tie in to Godzilla may not come until the last minutes or perhaps (taking a page from Marvel), during or after the closing credits. Of course, it may not come at all. And though I would rather not see it, if they decide to push Rodan or Mothra, it probably can work better than pushing Godzilla, since Mothra, like Kong, is an island monster (plus strange insectoid life forms are prevalent on SI) and perhaps the species of Rodan thrived on Skull Island (one has to remember, that Rodan was never a radiated monster).

reply

Wasn't like KSI in plans even before they managed deal to unite King Kong
and Godzilla together,They would prolly won't rush it if they had to rewrite
whole script, meaning this prolly isn't going to be JUST a setup film.

Also what's wrong with showing Mothra and Rodan in this movie ?
Legendary's Godzilla already had fully retconned origins story,
Mothra and Rodan can get similar treatment. It would also get audiences
that are not into Japanese monster to get used to them before they show
up in actual Godzilla movie.

And Big G-2,you should check original Rodan movie.
Rodan was originally pretty much a radiated monster.

The radiation thing was just a hypothesis from Professor Kashiwagi. They did find traces of Strontium 90 in Godzilla indicating he was radioactive, and of course, in subsequent movies, Geiger counters always indicated his presence, but that was never the story for Rodan. Not saying Rodan wasn't radioactive, but it has been pretty vague, enough so that one can have many theories on this monster.

See this is the problem i have with this shared universe thing when it comes to Kong. this IS supposed to be or started out as a Kong movie and not a Kaju,Toho type film ....especially with radioactive monsters as big as Godzilla. SI is supposed to be a Lost World not some island with radioactive mutants and monsters.

i'd rather they kept any Japanese Toho creatures for K v G [which I'm still not convinced will be a good thing anyway].

Another OMG!!! Batman V Superman is so dreadful EEEEEEK! It's coming! Thread on another, unrelated board from another widespread screeching, over dramatic fool flailing arms and all who wouldn't know bad cinema if it slapped her across the face.

Easy now. Your post is the only one that fits that description.

The pitfalls of a forced cinematic universe setup are an unanimous concern on this board, so the topic was very related. It's not like you can have a real conversation (meaning no bloodthirsty Marvel vs. DC dick-measuring) about BVS on the designated boards at the moment, anyway.

reply

Did you have to be an idiot in the first opening sentences and the crossover plan for King Kong and Godzilla is a pipe dream.

reply

Godzilla and kong will have the same mother name and they will become friends and later together teaming up forming the monster league to fight a much larger greater threat

reply

Guess what....????

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

reply

I hope so too. But I kind of think Godzilla was a good stand alone film, so this film might too.

Man of Steel was also a standalone for the most part. Usually the first installments are the ones "unaffected".
