So this is a sequel to the original King Kong story?

The synopsis says:

25 year after King Kong's death in New York, Carl Denham's son runs an expedition to Skull Island and tries to to solve the decade long mystery.

I think that synopsis has been proven to be false because not one character has been called Denham. The intention is this is a brand new mythology of King Kong so that it can be set in the same universe as Godzilla 2014. That means he probably never climbed the Empire State in the 30's and won't leave the island until 2020 when he faces Godzilla.

I dont think the film is taking place in New York either, looks like the helicopters are attacking him on Skull Island.

It was the plot outline for the other Skull Island movie, the one Neil Marshall was going to direct.
