best screenplay?? It ends for no reason and gives us no answers. And acting I think Sasha and Shia were just playing different versions of themselves. Star did have interesting hair so... that makes up for a little.
shareI don't think there was a screenplay. Seems like they just improved around different scenarios. Plus it set up story-lines and never paid off on them *SPOILER ALERT* - cowboys from the pool getting ripped off, oil rig worker getting bashed. I understand there's sometimes no repercussions in life, but it would've been more engaging if there were some kind of external conflict. Not to mention, it would've sent a better message to teens. Like KIDS did. That was a cool cautionary tale, as are most Larry Clark films, but this felt like a middle aged Director either re-living or catching up on adolescence. Sure, there was a theme of freedom, but like FISH TANK, it was made too obvious with animal symbolism. Definitely doesn't deserve Best Screenplay nomination.
All that said, though, the performances were awesome. Super real. For that, I gave it a 7/10.
