Which "friend" was the worst?

For me, it was Blaire. She filmed and posted a humiliating video of her childhood friend, who she knew was going through familial issues possibly related to molestation or rape by her uncle, and then she joins in on the online bullying under fake screen names that led to her suicide.

She shows the note that gets Adam killed.

On top of that, she cheated on him twice and lied about it being once and only when they were drunk.

Blaire seemed so innocent at the beginning, all making plans to lose her virginity to her high school love at prom and blah blah when really she was just a horrible person.

I only felt sorry for Jess. Yes, she also joined in on the bullying, but at least she didn't film or post the video and her only other crime was telling people Blaire had an eating disorder, which as far as high school gossip goes is pretty tame. Kids do worse than gossip about that petty crap in the hallways.

reply

I felt sorry for the fat kid...what the hell did he do?

reply

I think he got done off for trying to clean out the "glitch", I'm assuming that's why the countdown clock showed up.

reply

He said that she got what she deserved by dying.

Blaire was definitely the worst, and it was so obvious she was the one who posted the video

When I plant a fatass cracker bitch I expect her to stay planted!

reply

Exactly and in the beginning she was watching Laura's suicide video, I mean WTF was that about? It was like she was sadistically reveling in it. Notice how she also deletes it from her browser history later. There were many subtle hints that, upon looking back at the movie, point to Blaire being seriously f'ed up.

reply

I didn't think of that before, but you're right. Anyone who feels bad (or sorry) over the death of a suicide-committing friend or family member isn't going to go back and watch the video of them shooting themselves. It would be too much to stomach.

And since Mitch posted it, it says a lot about both of their characters for keeping the "Leaky Laura" video up. She never asked him to take it down after she died, and he never felt any inclination to do so. Complete jackasses.

reply

Mitch posted the video. Blaire filmed it.

From what was shown and the clues, Blaire was feeling guilty because she was going along with it all while knowing it was terrible. But that didn't excuse her and there were some things about their friendship that was left out. At the end, Blaire tells Laura they "drifted apart" and Laura says, "Oh is that how you remember it?" It wasn't *just* the video. The only thing the movie really let you know was that they all did a lot of bad things and weren't truly friends with anyone.

I would say Blaire is the worst for going along with everything. It was her boyfriend that posted it, she knew the entire time, created fake accounts with them, etc. Laura was definitely no saint though.

reply

I'd say Blaire was the worst because she pushed Laura to kill herself, that and she pretended that she was the innocent one and even betrayed her boyfriend when the ghost was asking her and Mitch who posted the video, she said Mitch did it to cover her own ass.

reply

[deleted]

no he did not. what sense would that even make? she said it to save herself.

reply

Nah...I gotta disagree...there was no evidence that Mitch posted that video.

I mean Blaire DID throw him under the bus...but prior to that, she seemed to almost be ready to confess something herself.

Adam got her right...Blaire was a liar!

reply

See I don't believe Mitch posted that video!

The only person who claimed that it was Mitch...was Blaire, and yet the video was hers. When it came time to save her skin, everyone else was expendable...and we see that first with Adam, and then I believe ultimately with Mitch.

I honestly believe that the reason Mitch doesn't throw Blaire under the bus...is because he figures that it's a trick question, and he has no reason to believe that either of them posted it.

I mean really, none of the three guys seemed to have much connection to Laura, with the possible exception that they may have also said some nasty things on the video that mocked her.

This isn't to say that all three guys were innocent because, after all, Adam did apparently roofie a girl, and Mitch apparently knew about it. As for Ken, his connection to Laura was a bit more ambiguous.

But the three girls apparently all had a more direct negative connection to Laura. Val for instance mocks her and tells her to kill herself; Jess apparently desecrated Laura's grave (whatever that entailed), and Blaire recorded the video.

reply

Had to make sure I was remembering the events correctly before I could reply, so I checked the spoiler page for it. There is some room for ambiguity as to who actually posted the video, but not who filmed it.

Laura messages Blaire on Facebook asking why she is protecting him. Laura says “He didn’t do anything I promise” but then backspaces and says “He did it.”

Just then, a new YouTube video is posted on the RIP Laura Barns’ Facebook page, starting with Laura drunk on the ground covered in her own feces. But at the end, where it normally stops, the cameraman (we now know it was Mitch) films Blaire, standing next to him. She is laughing about what they just captured on camera and says, “I can’t believe we just got that on tape. We got her.”

And from the short version:

But when Blaire tries to remind Laura how close they were, Laura posts the full video revealing Blaire was with her boyfriend that night, laughing at Laura’s expense.

There is always going to be more questions than answers with these types of movies, but at least this one had a clear message. Don't be a dick.

reply

Mitch didn't film it. Blaire did. There's only one shadow and it has long hair, Blaire just turns it on own face and giggles.

reply

blaire was the only person filming, you can only see one shadow. she was holding the camera and just turned it onto herself because she thought it was funny. dumb idea, but that's how it really happened.

reply

Your comments led me to question whether I was wrong, but having seen the film again today, it's clear that Blaire is recording Laura herself...likely with her cell phone.

I think Laura threw Mitch under the bus, just to save her own skin.

reply

Blaire was clearly the worst of the lot. She got Adam killed, she threw her boyfriend under the bus (and cheated on him), and she also filmed the video that led to Laura's society. She never confessed.

reply

[deleted]

Hahaha, it was just a really bad typo, but I died laughing. Was wondering if anyone else had caught that. If the video had led to Laura's society she'd be rolling in dough, not Skype.

The way I interpreted the direct transgressions of each upon Laura was as follows:

- Blaire recorded the video, and I believe she uploaded it as well. I'll get back to this point in a moment. She also mocked Laura in the comments on the video.

- Jess desecrated Laura's grave apparently, and may also have mocked Laura in the comments on the video as well.

- Val mocked Laura and told her to kill herself in a text message, and also potentially mocked her in the comments on the video as well.

- Adam potentially mocked Laura in the comments on the video. Beyond that, I'm not sure of anything he specifically did to Laura, though he did roofie another girl

- Mitch potentially mocked Laura in the comments on the video...though he was also alleged by Blaire to have uploaded the video. I'll get back to this in a moment, but I don't believe that he uploaded the video.

- Ken potentially mocked Laura in the comments on the video, and helped them all get rid of Laura's ghost...momentarily at least.

Now to get back to who uploaded the video, keep in mind that the only source that claimed that Mitch uploaded it...was Blaire. And of course after Mitch was dead, we learn that Blaire recorded the video herself. Who would record the video, and then rely on someone else to upload it?

Furthermore just look at both Blaire and Mitch as the clock ticked down. They were both clearly upset, but Mitch never dimes out Blaire or admits to it himself...because he genuinely believes that neither of them did it. Blaire, just as she had done with the print out earlier that led to Adam's death, threw Mitch under the bus to save herself.

So who did I feel was the worst? Blaire! She played the goody-goody, but she was the whole cause of what happened to Laura, and then ultimately to the others...and she very clearly sacrifices both Adam AND Mitch to save her own skin.

And who did I feel the most sorry for? I suppose Mitch...because he was betrayed by both Adam and Blaire, and though he may have deserved the betrayal from Adam (given that he ratted him out to the cops to save his own skin), I have no reason to believe he did ANYTHING to Laura.

reply

Then why did Laura kill Mitch if Laura knew the truth about who recorded the video and uploaded it? It being Blaire, not Mitch? Laura just killed Mitch because Blaire put the blame on him? Laura knew it wasn't Mitch, yet killed him? That part didn't make sense to me, unless it was done as a means to further torture Blaire by killing off someone she loved?

reply

This. I think Blaire lied and said it was Mitch to save herself, and Mitch died because Laura was trying to cause as much pain and damage to Blaire as she possibly could.

reply

The worst friend was the one who convinced me to watch this steaming pile of excrement.

reply

Blaire was the worst of them all. She cheated on her boyfriend twice and kept acted like a saint. She was also the reason Laura killed herself. And killed Adam by flipping up her paper.

reply

She killed Adam to save Mitch from dying, however she killed Mitch to save herself at the end (or so she thought).

reply

Blaire

Second, Val, but Blaire was definitely the worst.

Welcome to the island of misfit toys.

reply

The others were worse than Val.

reply

Definitely Blaire was the worst.
