Wow Jay is surely one of the most repellent

Characters ever seen in a tv show. Drug addict psychopath who treats women like sex animals. His two redeeming features are being a skilled fighter and and the obvious affection for his mother and brother. But almost every scene he's in is unpleasant to watch. He was also extremely unpleasant in Justified so maybe it's also the actor.
The show itself is terrific and hands down one of the most dramatically entertaining shows on tv.

reply

Meh.

It's not like the women he hooks up with don't know what he is. They are using him as a sex animal too. If consenting adults want to knock boots with no deeper relationship attached, that is their business.

"Knock boots"---old-school saying, but what a hilarious way to put that, lol!

If you are watching a television show where you like all of the characters, it is usually a boring as hell TV show.

Imagine if game of thrones got rid of the repugnant characters? They are required to make the show interesting.

Also it is more realistic to have someone's flaws on display -- most people are flawed in some way. Their "outer shell" might be nice, but dig a bit deeper and they are usually selfish and have vices. We just get to look at his vices and problems.

reply

Season 2 he definitely had a bigger head, he's still a great character

reply

Halfway through S2 and he's showing some humanity by falling for, unfortunately for him, the wrong chick.

Thats the thing about Jonathan Tucker...he can play SO many roles. He is such a versatile actor. I've enjoyed him in alot of films, as well as TV SHOWS like Kingdom, The Black Donnellys, and Justified. He's all over the place as far as characters go IMO.

Jonathan Tucker is hands down one of the best actors working today...the fact that he is repellant to you shows his range. Try some of his other projects....seriously, he can do it all!

reply

Its been 13 years, but hard to see him as that annoying, scrawny, nerd guy from Texas Chainsaw Massacre

reply

Agreed. Tucker is phenomenal but Jay is my favorite character. He seems to have the most compassion of all the characters and I find him really fun and complex.

Lol, it's almost universally acknowledged that Tucker is awesomesauce, so maybe it's some kind of deeply personal problem you're having with the guy if you dislike both Jay and Boone the Beloved.

Clever people will recognize and tolerate nothing but cleverness.

After watching the first episode of this show, and absolutely hating his guts in Justified, I was going to ask if Tucker has ever played a good guy. A few more episodes in, I've realized that he's actually playing a good guy on this show, but one with an incredibly annoying personality.

reply

When I first started watching the show (which was admittedly about 5 days ago) I thought he was going to be a total jerkoff. However, he has turned into one of my FAVORITE characters on the show.

reply

The women use him, too, though. It's not just him - they approach him for purely physical. And when he gets emotional or opens up, they shut down and want to go back to sex. Jay's got a tough exterior, but it's obvious he's very sensitive. Just him on the verge of tears in episode 2.14 sums him up so well.

reply

Agree. He's actually pretty emotionally fragile and everyone seems to want to use and discard him.

Appears that Alicia's sister likes him sincerely, but after that talk with Alicia, maybe she'll back off. Which Jay will translate into rejection probably.

reply

Yeah, I think she likes him but she appears to have her own damage she needs to work through. She seems to be a bad influence for him and an invitation to self destruct. I agree, he will likely see the demise of that fling as a rejection.
