what the heck did I just watch (Spoilers)

Cassandra is attracted to Jenkins? That came out of nowhere!!!
And that kiss with Estrella? I am so confused.

As someone who shipped Jake and Cassandra I am completely gut punched.

Well in season one she said she liked it when all those women were fawning over her due to some artifact. So I assumed she was gay or bi and it appears she's probably bi.

She channeled the archetype of Prince(ss) Charming in that episode.

You're perverted, twisted, and sick. I like that in a person.

Why does Hollywood insist on inserting LGBT into everything? How is it that a segment that is less than 3% of the population manages to be in more than 90% of TV?

reply

I hate the relationship between Flynn and Eve, no chemistry at all. I wish they would both go away.

I could see the chemistry between Jake and Cassandra with all the looks they shared and what she said to Jake when they were in the cave telling their truths to each other in the 2nd season. I really wanted to see them together, but the writers seem to want to take her character in a different direction neither of which I am happy with. The gay thing was kind of hinted at, but Jenkins? Come on!!

They are free to do what they want with their show, but I don't like where it's going. Very disappointed.

reply

I agree about Flynn and Eve, I love their characters individually, but as a couple, they're cringeworthy.

reply

I'm not so sure it's an LGBT thing. She might just have a thing for immortality people.

You see the destruction that she-beast laid? I'm being risk-averse, considering.

And the amount being shown on tv is about equal to that percantage as well. Last year for prime time scripted series there were jsut over 30 LGBT characters, out of well over 800 characters. This made up less than 4% of the characters on TV. So really what is being represented on tv is pretty representative of the population.

There seems to be a lot of confusion over this issue. On the Timeless (2016) board, this thread:
www.imdb.com/title/tt5511582/board/nest/264357680
contained this claim:
Every year, GLAAD counts every character on TV, counts every LGBT character, and does the math. Here's a link to this year's report: http://www.glaad.org/whereweareontv16
To save time - the number is less than 5% for regular characters on broadcast TV. 43 out of 895. I suspect most people have no idea that there are nearly 900 regular characters on broadcast TV alone.

43 is nearly 50% more than your claim of 30, and 800 vs 895 is not proportional. For exact numbers, 30 of 800 is 3.75%, while 43 of 895 is 4.8%.

I did some math in that thread and long story short the estimated percentage of regular homosexual characters to all regular characters depicted in primetime is around 18%, well above the estimates of the actual homosexual population. On Monday alone I counted 14 homosexual characters- to say there are only 16 to 29 more in the other 6 days of programming is unlikely:
Let's look at the prime time lineup for when Timeless airs on Monday (I'm excluding "reality" shows since they do not use characters):
ABC: 1 show, 1 character
CBS: 5 shows, 0 characters
CW: 2 shows, 5 characters total (both shows have at least 1 character)
FOX: 2 shows, 7 characters (both shows have at least 1 character)
NBC: 1 show, 1 character
Total shows: 11
Total homosexual characters: 14

3%? Where did it number appear. It's too low.

reply

yes completely inappropriate for what this show is trying to be.

I want to like this show but it feels so amateurish. And the overacting is almost unbearable. It's like it's made by hacks or pro's who've just given up trying any more. Too bad.

reply

It looked like Estrella kissed her, and I assume that's because she's a vampire. Vampires are supposed to be sensual and seductive when biting someone's neck, so I assumed she was attracted to Cassandra, and it was in her nature to kiss her like that. And Cassandra is just getting over the tumor and thinking she was going to die, and Estrella helped her, so she didn't mind her kissing her like that. I think the tumor and thinking she was dying made Cassandra maybe think Jenkins being immortal could help her? I really don't know what happened, but I thought it was neat that now Cassandra seems to have gotten more powerful after having the tumor removed!

reply

I agree about the kiss. Probably just thrilled to be alive!

And maybe she just wanted to spend her final hours with Jenkins because she thought he would understand how she felt about not getting the tumor removed.

And that is really cool about her power being increased by having the tumor removed. Putting thoughts into other people's heads? Wow! Can't wait to see what they do with that...

reply

Well, she's also dressing age appropriately at last. 'Course, that fetching summer dress she was wearing for her final visit to Estrella might be a one-off attempt to be seductive.

reply

Clothes are used to control one's image. I think she dresses like you would think a quirky professor would dress. She's a lot like Flynn in some ways.

now those were the coolest punk rock outfits ever!

It looks like I'm the only person who saw the Jenkins thing coming. Strangely, I never saw Jassandra as more than a sibling relationship, but I've been monitoring Cass and Jenkins' relationship from S1. Not joking here. Would have to re-watch to pinpoint what set me off, but I saw a little spark of something and have watched it grow for 3 years. Glad to see there was a payoff, even if Cassandra was ultimately rebuffed.

I personally would feel gut punched if they DID go down the Jassandra route, because that ship leaves me cold, and I find the constant push towards it by some of the more vocal shippers further puts me off. But hey, to each their own.

As for the reveal of just who Jenkins does love in the latest ep, I hope that was less shocking for people.
