Do the clipping book and back door not count as magic?

Throughout the past season they had the debate about using magic and Stone was firmly against it and in the end they decided to stop using magic, but aren't the clipping book and door magical items that they use on a regular basis? I understood the dilemma but it feels undermined when they clearly use magic regularly.

I think these may be listed in a grey area -- magic that can't be used to hurt someone, gain wealth, etc...

Well, I guess you can abuse anything. Like take for granted an event the book shows you or use the door for random holidays to save airfare.

However, these are used more as a tool to aid the Librarians to do their jobs and must be a pretty low level of magic (although, how can a door to ANYWHERE be small potatoes is beyond me) or the intent is pure enough not to kick in that rule of 3

Also, the clippings book just does its thing. Looking at it when it does so isn't technically magic. And Jenkins' magic contraptions, like the back door, at this point are almost a science…

Cassandra brought up the door after they got back from Norway. He knows that magic helps them do what they do, but he doesn't believe in using magic for things you can achieve through other means--the more you use magic, the less you appreciate how corrupting it can be.
