*Sigh*

This movie promises to be either really, really good or really, REALLY, bad. I'm hoping for the former, but I can't help but be disappointed that the male protagonist seems to fail where so many male protagonists have failed before: thinking with the wrong damn head. A beautiful woman wants you, regardless of your happy or sad marital status, and boom, you lose all common sense and decency, and it ends up coming back to bite you later. I don't know about anyone else, but I find it to be a cliché and unsatisfactory plot device.

I just watched the trailer and came here to ask about the very same thing. I get tired of the dumb stereotypes of women in the movies (I'm looking at you, Jurassic World). I was wondering if men get exasperated as well. There are plenty of intelligent, honorable men with integrity who would never cheat on their wives (I'm married to one of them :-). Do you men get frustrated at the same insulting "OMG boobs! Wife? What wife?" trope?

If nothing else, you're right cmartin, it's a cliché. Lazy writing, IMO. Surely there is some way to advance the story without resorting to the same tired plot devices. Maybe not though, the whole plot has been done before: evil corporation, underdog threatens CEO, underdog is framed by CEO, underdog turned into one-man army and wins. La fin.

Trailers are sneaky and deceitful although taking this particular one on face value I agree with the OP. In reality if one was that stupid and get involved with this girl and it turns out to be a game of revenge or planting evidence or whatever, this guy would have gone straight to the police, period. He would not escape and try to clear his name, talk about cliché, how many times have we seen this device. In any case if somebody out there had 8.5 Billion dollars they could quite simply bump this Lawyer off and make it look like suicide.

reply

Oh? Married to one, are you?

Men who don't cheat, are most often...men who can't.

Chris Rock had a funny bit in one of his stand-up routines, in which he made fun of senators who shamed and cried for the impeachment of our former president after his little scandal, who were always mentioning their own fidelity to their wives and how honorable they were. Rock then went on to say....WHO THE F WOULD WANT TO SCREW YOU.... YOU OLD, FAT, BALD, UNDESIRABLE MAN? Of course a guy like that is going to be faithful, duh, he has no options.

Except perhaps with an over-fed blind and impoverished older woman with gout, who's been reading 50 Shades (brail edition), with a history of pathological hyper-promiscuity and mild mental illness. Even one of those unattractive senators might stand a chance with her.

Men who don't cheat almost always fall into two categories: Those who assume they just can't pull it off without getting caught, or, those who just aren't desirable to the sorts of women they'd strongly consider cheating with.

The ones who don't cheat and don't fall into those two groups, and who have such intense and overwhelming amounts of moral/ethical fiber that it's nearly a colon cleaner....are as rare as rocking horse manure. They exist, sure. But then, so do white rhinos. Not too many of those either.

You really must live in an incredibly small world.
So you can put man who don't cheat in two categories?
Pathetic child you are. A real man doesn't need to cheat
because his woman gives all he needs and then some. And believe it or not
there are people who really love their wife / partner. So much that they would not even contemplate to cheat. That has nothing do with having rare high moral and ethics. Any man who feels the need or wants to cheat is not getting it from his own partner. Of course you obviously haven't found your one and you never will with that attitude. And your bit about being undesirable is further proof you don't
know the first thing about women. All you need is charm or confidence.

So the OP sounded like a complete idiot but you sound like you're fifteen going on twelve.

"A real man doesn't need to cheat because his woman gives (him all he) needs and then some."
"Any man who feels the need or wants to cheat is not getting it from his own partner."

Two ridiculous cliches that indicate you are not in a position to lecture anyone about relationships or women. A woman's role in a relationship is not to fulfill a man's wants and needs. That's HIS job. No one is responsible for fulfilling the wants & needs of another person. We learn this as young adults when leave the nest and move out into the world - we don't latch onto someone else-a substitute, "mommy".

Regarding your second ridiculous comment - plenty of men cheat on women when they are getting sex at home. It happens all the time. Studies show that most men cheat because of variety of underlying psychological reasons and either lacking personal insight or in deep denial they blame their partner for their own poor decision making. Most men who cheat are insecure, immature or damaged-having experienced trauma as a child they act out as adults.

For what it's worth, you might want to work on the charm and read a book or even an article or two about women.

wow- you really are a lame human being. probably 25 year old stoner. chris rock was telling a joke- the man himself has been married for 20 years. believe it or not- some of us men prefer monogamy - the love of one woman than sticking everything.ive lived it both ways- and believe me- its cliche- but the love of a good woman beats the dust off the other option- of course young oats needing sowing and all that- but once u grow up you ll realise. or else your going to be a man child for the rest of your life - which is what you sound like- you sound and write like the kind of guy who fathers a dozen kids to a dozen women- (not support any of them except to come and play with them now and again, work in a menial job like security guard ) and think that makes you more of a man than raising one kid yourself.
sir, i never make dispersions upon people here- but you are a very unimpressive human being- and i feel confident saying that from your lone post here.

Yeah, when that poster said her husband would never cheat I squirmed. It's great to be all confident in your husband but that's just bad for her karma. The smugness and overconfidence is just asking for a comeuppance. It reminds me of that annoying Kathie Lee Gifford who put out a book, gloating about her marriage to Frank Gifford. She cavalierly wrote something like "Our marriage is based on christ and cheating is just not an option". So when Frank was caught cheating she looked even more like the idiot she was/is. Maybe that poster's husband falls into your two categories?

reply

Well, I actually watched the whole movie and can assure you that no 'cheating' occurred!!!!!

Now I hope you are right beti1948 but how do you know your husband has not/would never cheat on you? That's what 90% of other women married to 'honourable men with integrity' have probably said!

reply

Yeppers. In my 20s I had two affairs with "upstanding honorable men with integrity". It was strictly for sex, I wasn't going to break up any marriage. But they were the last people you would ever think would cheat on their wives. Thank god we never got caught, because now with the benefit of maturity and life experience, I realize how wrong I was, and how much of an asshole those two men were to cheat.

So unless that poster is a helicopter wife and keeps track of him every minute of the day, she shouldn't be so smug.

So sad to see so good actors in so mediocre movie. The plot sounded interesting and so was the beginning of the movie. But anyone who has seen even just one movie like this before, knew after 20 minutes the whole thing. I'm so disappointed to see old, legendary actors waste their skills in these "höpö-höpö"-movies.

But isn't complaining about a movie where a protagonist makes bad choices because he's thinking with the little head kind of like complaining about a movie where yet again they have made the sky blue and water wet?
