Kurtwell got off easy (spoilers, obv.)

Furthermore, his relocation to a wasteland merely relocated the threat to a less visible corner. Sadly, this is probably a realistic portrayal of the pedo shell game the church plays/played, but seems To be inconsistent with the themes of the series. We understand the pope to be unafraid to do things previous papal administrations would have balked at. We understand the pope to have a very personal dislike of pedos. Why wouldn’t the pop have excommunicated his ass, or turned him and the evidence over to criminal proceedings? The culmination of this storyline plays out as if it is a milestone of growth, and a reemergence of justice within the faith, but it seems to me like a half-measure that mimics business as usual. The tone of the scene is inconsistent with the reality viewers will interpret it through.
