YES she did ...

but IF LENNY really believes her BABY will be POPE PIUS the 14TH ...

HOW far do you think she got???

Do you really think she'll ever be able to GET AWAY from LENNY if that's what he thinks???

Wouldn't she also need to CUT ALL TIES to the CHURCH if she didn't want him to find her???

She didn't go very far, they live in Rome.

She may be in Rome but she left the Vatican. She did this mainly for her child, her marriage and in respect for the Holy Father. She has many things to be thankful for - the conception and birth of her child. She also has to deal with her conscience. She did try to seduce the Pope not once but twice. She had indiscretions with other clergy and has a lot to atone for.

Also there is the optics. The Cardinals see Lenny pushing the baby carriage and his involvement with the rearing of the child. Lenny guided Esther in her praying and he himself prayed for a miracle for her. It is only normal he feels a kinship with this child and the parents. It is a blow to Lenny to have her leave without saying goodbye and leaving the photo behind but it is also a message to the Cardinals as well. That the Pope did not father her child.

I don't think Lenny seriously meant that the baby would be Pius XIV. It was just a passing comment meant to inject humour rather than maybe display a little shyness that they had so honoured him.

Her husband also got a new job as a private security guard. They probably would have had to move anyways. Just bad timing while Lenny was in Africa.

We don't know if Esther's husband applied for the job to get away from the Vatican or not. Peter may have felt the Holy Father was usurping his role a bit.

That they didn't say goodbye or leave a note or anything only the message of leaving the photo behind spoke loud and clear. Of course in episode 9 the Pope repays her with a gift of his own. Such a beautiful scene and gesture.
