Taken 3.5
Minus the actual "taken" part
shareSo you've seen it?

Let's see. There might be a pattern.
It's usually:
1) a father who was absent during (a big portion of) his child's youth
2 a father with a set of 'special' skills.
3) a daughter in trouble
Case in point:
Taken
Father (Liam Neeson): ex CIA-agent
Daughter is abducted
Term life
Father (Vince Vaugh): heist-planner
Daughter is chased after by gang
Blood Father
Father (Mel Gibson): ex con
Daughter on the run for bad guys
Die Hard 4
Father (Bruce Willis): ex cop
Son (okay, no daughter this time) needs to get out of a Russian prison
Any more titles?

Except, this movie is based on a book. They haven't milked it from the "Taken" franchise.

taco cat spelt backwards is still taco cat
Considering Taken 2 and 3 sucked balls i really hope this is not right
shareYeah, except they made (mad) money and Liam Neeson is famous for 'em (among other films, ofc). If they were in Britain, he'd be talking all kinds of smack about it... A la Daniel Craig, James Bond.
Except he, Craig, doesn't do it (I'm willing to bet) because his and Neeson's sequels hit rock bottom, but because he's such a great (theater) actor and it's all, ah, so, beneath him.
Although they're on different production levels, but REALLY not (!) that far off, perhaps the sequels can be compared to G.I. Joe: Retaliation, in terms of how much they sucked, where Dwayne Johnson, the "Viagra of franchises", appeared...
Wait, I take that back right away: The Rock and the sequel to G.I. Joe were actually a lot better, in their respective movie universe (within the confines of the films).
Ugh, yeah, never mind all that, LOL. I have high hopes for this film, in spite of its STUPID title (Blood Father), because Mel is old-school AND he's got nothing to lose, metaphorically speaking... It's gonna be good, must be, I can't remember many (if any) of his movies being so full of it, like everything that's released these days. Besides The Expendables ofc., but those could be viewed as fun.
^^ You know, with all of the past scandals, keeping him grounded and also he hasn't been churning out movies on a conveyor belt, like everyone else. =)
...Which is to say that Blood Father is the movie equivalent of high-end animal fries. I had no idea this was even something I wanted.share
Okay, so imagine the animal fries were a Taken movie. And when I say that, I mean Taken the genre, not Taken the movie. Taken is also a Taken movie, but there are lots of Taken movies. There are three that are actually called Taken, three to five more that star Liam Neeson (think Non-Stop, Run All Night, A Walk Among the Tombstones, etc.), and a handful of others that star Neeson-aged actors (see Bruce Willis, Sean Penn, etc.) in Liam Neesons-esque roles.
The basic format is, there’s a middle-aged guy who just wants to live a quiet life, but then someone messes with his family (usually his daughter) and he gets dragged back into whatever bad-guy life he used to lead, as an assassin, a super spy, or whatever. It’s a classic action movie format, but the Taken twist was to cast a lead well into his fifties or sixties, and not one known solely for action (like Charles Bronson, say). Instead they cast a legit near-A-lister with real acting chops (like Liam Neeson, and various Liams Neesons).
Truth be told, I never liked Taken all that much. (THIS IS A GUILTY ADMISSION, PLEASE STOP PELTING ME WITH SMALL ROCKS.) But Blood Father is like all of the melted cheese and special sauce of Taken with none of the grease and exhaust fumes. (Yes, this metaphor is all used up. I also had to think really hard to find something bad about animal fries.)

This film can be compared to the first Taken... not the sequels who were complete mess even if they are dumb fun (to me).
Last Movies: - Blood Father: 8/10
- Suicide Squad: 9/10
- Sausage Party: 4/10
So it's not taken?
Ha-ha! I threw that *beep* before I walked in the room!
