Will I like it if I have hated his previous work?

I find Nolan a pretentious hipster. Is his recent movie better?
I watched "J'ai tué ma mere", and I thought it was OK.
Then "Laurence anyways" and it was too damn long and pretentious...then "Heartbeats" which it's just a long MTV video that I could not wait for it to end with annoying characters that I couldn't care less about.
Is "Mommy" better? At least, it seems that Dolan is not there and I would not have to see his resting bitch face on the screen. (Come on! You know he has a bitchy face)

As I haven't seen the rest of his films, I wouldn't know how good or bad this is compared to them. BUT, this is definitely the best film I've seen in a long time. Emotional, powerful and just beautiful to look at, it left an indelible impression on me. I wholeheartedly recommend it to you and I'd be very curious to hear your reaction should you decide to watch it.

I would say he really starts mastering his craft around Laurence Anyways and Tom at the Farm, and in Mommy it's just effortless. If you like cinema, you're bound to find it at least interesting.

Later that day, after tea... I died, suddenly.

Thank you both.
I shall give it a try.

So what did you think?

CG GORE IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO THE HORROR GENRE!

reply

Hi.
I finally watched it.
It is definitely an improvement however I think that Dolan still relies too heavily on the music, perhaps because we're part of the MTV generation. It reminded me of that time when Cameron Crowe remade "Abre los ojos". "Vanilla Sky" ended up being pretty much a music catalog. A good one (like in this case), but it is still a distraction. I guess it's a matter of finding the right editor.
The ratio also bothered me - I don't know why but my eyes felt very tired.
And what's with the Rachel Duncan and season 1's Alicia Florrick wigs?

reply

Hey, the guy's name is Dolan, not Nolan. We can all understand where this mistake comes from. :-)
