New Yorker publishes 'gross and deeply upsetting' review of The Incredibles 2

In Lane's critique of the PG-rated film, he warns movie-goers they might hear "a shifty sound, as of parents squirming awkwardly beside their enraptured offspring."

"And why, kids?" he continues, "Because Mommy just leaned over to Daddy and whispered, 'Is it just me, or does Mrs. Incredible kind of look like Anastasia in Fifty Shades of Grey?'

"'You know, the girl in the Red Room, with the whips and all?'"

Lane then goes on to imply he had sexual thoughts while watching the movie with his wife and children.

"Daddy just rested his cooling soda firmly in his lap and, like Mr. Incredible, tried very hard to think of algebra," he writes.

"As for how Daddy will react later on, during the scene in which Helen and the husky-voiced Evelyn unwind and simply talk, woman to woman, I hate to think, but watch out for flying popcorn."

Considering that I didn't watch any of the 50 shades movies I just don't see the connection nor would I expect any children to. I didn't see anything remoterly sexual about the film. I'm still trying to remeber what has evelyn and helen talking woman to woman or what the implication is. I guess those of us who didn't watch 50 shades are out of the sexual innuendo jokes the film allegedly were in the film. Does anyone one in the audience who's seen 50 shades agree with the NY peice?

And exactly is meant by "and watch out for flying popcorn"? that whole last sentance wasn't even coherent.

I've seen many reviews detailing how hot she is in the movie and I agree that she definitely does look great in the movie. For a professional reviewer to literally include his jerking off in a review though is a different matter. Why?

CraigJames: The only thing I noticed was her hips seemed wider then the previous film but she shows no crease on her rear which we'd expect considering how tight they were. But agreed Lane is the one with the sexual issues not the movie. She still doesn't look hot to me. Sure her hips are wider and femanant looking but thats all defeated by the way her legs become pole thin at the knees reminding you she's a cartoon character rather then an attractive female. Nice review by the way.

Her hips are nice from the front but her knees pretty much slap you in the face and scream "I'm a cgi cartoon idiot". and from the back she looks like she's in granny panty with no crease. Even barbie has a crease.

I haven't seen Incredibles II yet, and I never will see 50 Shades, and that last sentence was indeed quite incoherent, but the image of flying popcorn tells me he believes a bucket o' popcorn will be launched by some sort of involuntary trouser force, if - if, you know what I'm talking about..

The first and last time I recall a spring action being referenced to an erection was bevis and butt head which makes this NY writer sound like a total moron.

I'd also have to go with factually inaccurate... Incredibles predates Fifty Shades, so Elastigirl came first. Thus, Anastasia looks like Mrs. Incredible, not vice-versa.

Some might argue that it's all up to the order in which the speaker/writer first saw them.

Of course, I'm sure this out of control sex maniac writer who did this review would get a sudden uncontrollable erection after reading me saying that "Elastigirl came first."

I assumed he was reffering to Elastigirls grey suit cause if he's reffering to the red suit then your right. I woulden't know cause I didn't watch 50 shades. I watch real porn.
