I was revealed today that the focus of the movie would be centered around Elasticgirl while Bob Parr is gonna sit around at home to watch the kids. Not only does this seem like some crazy third wave feminism on par with the Ghostbusters reboot, but it's also unfaithful towards the central point of the original. Which is that family comes first and a family is stronger together and not when divided from one another.
After 14 years of waiting, this really hurts. Fuck off, Pixar.
Seriously? That makes no sense... In the original, they discovered how well the family works as a team. And now they're just breaking up again? It's nice that Elastigal gets to have some of the fun, but what about Violet and Dash?
I'm probably still going to watch it, but my hopes aren't very high now...
I don't like the sound of it either, the family worked together really good as a team, that's what made the first one so good, this sounds more like a spinoff than a sequel.
The Moviechat still hasn't listened, and it still hasn't expanded on these chatboxes, so they're artificially limited (the stupidest thing in the world is to limit TEXT, which takes the least space of all things. Especially in 2018, for crying out loud!).
It just doesn't fit here.. and I am tired of trying to slice it to three or four parts just to make it fit. Stupid moviechat, forcing me to do this. in IMDb, I was able to at least type as much as I want without limitations, and it was completely fine.
Why does this site has this ridiculous limitation?
I think you've got it backwards. The second movie will focus on Helen like the first Incredibles movie focused on Bob. In that, he's sort of the lead and has the most character development but his family is just as important.
Frankly, I'd rather watch a movie that's all about the invisible girl, and almost nothing about anyone else, with lots of action and 'female power fantasy' whatever. Putting Bob BACK in the exact same scenario as he was in the first movie - except changing JOB to MR. MOM-parenting, it's just so underwhelming and boring as a concept.
I don't care who the main hero is, or what gender they are, if the story is interesting and the action is good, and we finally get MORE superhero action (which is what this kind of movies would be so perfect for).
But instead, it looks like we're getting the 'family dynamic', the 'relationship' crap, the 'parenting' crap, and all that boring stuff that we hated about the first movie anyway (who really enjoyed all those scenes where Bob is at his boring job, or where the parents are arguing, etc.? Although, I have to admit, the movie is so well paced, it's not that bad. I have a suspicion that this movie isn't going to be - but I might be wrong).
Just give me superhero action with interesting story, no romance, no relationships, no boring 'family dinners', and I'm good, regardless of the gender of the protagonist(s). Heck, make the whole family female for all I care. It doesn't matter. Have your female power fantasy if you must. Just give us a good movie instead of agenda-ridden rehash and clichés.

Me for one. I want to know the characters as well as enjoy the super-hero action. The combination of the two creates a well-rounded, interesting story. If I don't know the characters, who cares if they succeed or not? live or die?

I was about to say the same thing, more or less, but you beat me too it. Showing the family side of superhero life was one of the most distinguishing, and one of the best, characteristics of the first one. I have a lot of faith in Brad Bird.
YEAH! Well, the invisble girl (again with veteran columist SARAH VOWELL) is back, and she's got a issue here, her budding crush on a kid named Ted.SNEAKY suprise ending.,,.
I had some mixed feelings about the direction of this sequel too. Based on what we have been given from the ads and plot synopsis. If anything, I'm more worried about this sequel feeling like a repeat of the first movie-- but with gender reverse roles for Bob and Helen. So the better analogy for your comparison would be Ghostbuster 2 moreso than the reboot. Although I doubt that it will suffer near the same kind of receptions or problems as either of the Ghostbusters properties. It would be a letdown at best for this long awaited sequel if that direction were to turn out mostly true.
However, I'll still give this movie some benefit of a doubt that it may actually turn out to be something more in the end than how it was being advertised.
