The Name Game.
Did no one at Nick HQ think about the fact that Ricky and Dicky are both short for Richard? Did the parents actually name one of the kids just "Dick," or is this an homage to the Michael Jackson school of baby-naming? #epicfail

shareHa!
shareI just came here to say the same thing. Honestly like I have an uncle named Micky so it's not like there wasn't another option. The kid would have been better off with the name Hicky then have the same name as his own brother.

Lol, yeah.
I foresee quick cancellation.
Seriously, "Huey, Dewey, Louie, & Webby" would have been better. How could they not have at least gone with "Mickey, Nicky, Dicky (or Ricky), & Dawn" so that the boys' names would be Michael, Nicholas, and Richard, rather than Nicholas, Richard, and Richard?!? x___x

"My Little Throny! I used to wonder what bloodshed could be..."
Not the first time TV brothers have been named the same.
I’m Larry. This is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl.
From 1982-90 CBS comedy “Newhart.”
But that was intentional, like "Pete & Pete." I'm not convinced the producers realized what they were doing, which doesn't bode well for the potential longevity of the series.
shareThey should have just gone the extra mile and named all three boys Richard, and just called the show Ricky, Richie, Dicky & Dawn.
"What kind of scary ass clowns came to your birthday party?"
It's just the writer's trying to be cute and clever. In which case, it comes off as stupid. Which is why I have little tolerance for cute or clever when it's blatantly intentional.
shareIt is very easy for a Prince of Ruess to recite his paternal ancestry.
"I am Henry son of Henry son of Henry son of Henry...."
Every male in the family has been named Henry (or Heinrich in German) since the reign of Emperor Henry VI who gave a big promotion to the ancestor of the dynasty. So all the brothers in the family have been named Henry for eight hundred years.
Emperor Frederick II (1194-1250) had a son Henry (VII) King of the Romans and King of Sicily(1211-1242) and another son Henry Otto (1238-1253).
Frederick II had a legitimate daughter Margareta (1226-1227), another legitimate daughter Margaret (1237/1241-1270), and an illegitimate daughter Margaret (1230-1298).
Emperor Frederick II had a legitimate son Frederick (1239/40 - died young) and two illegitimate sons Frederick of Petorano (an adult with two children in 1240) and Frederick of Antioch (1221-1256).
Famed boxer George Foreman has named all of his five sons George.
It is possible that Ricky is named Ricardo and Dicky is named Richard.
It seems plausible that Colonel Dixon Stansbury Miles (1804-1862) might have been nicknamed Dick or Dicky, so perhaps Dicky is named Dixon.
It is also perfectly possible, and common, to give someone a nickname which is not the usual nickname for his personal name. There is no guarantee that any of the boys is named Richard. The father called Nicky Nicholas in the "Quadfather" episode.
Possibly the boys are named Arthur Nicholas, Brendan Richard, and Constantine Richard, for example, and are nicknamed Nicky, Ricky, and Dickie after their middle names.
Possibly the parents were fans of the Matter of Britain and named their sons Locrinus, Camber, and Albanactus, for example, and then nicknamed them Ricky, Dicky, and Nicky which would rhyme and seem less strange to most people.
If I can think of these explanations the writers of the show might be able to think of them too.

Yes, but that was the joke.

I was thinking that Dicky could be short for Dickin——that's the name of one of my favorite characters in the movie "The Secret Garden."
shareNicky, Ricky, Penisy & Dawn
shareOr maybe Ricky's name is Rick.
