Why no one is calling Ariana DeBose and Rachel Zegler for their fake accent in the movie?
I saw their interviews - they both speak with perfect American accent since they were born in USA.
They made such a big deal with "casting real latinos, when original had greek and americans". Yet no real latino was cast.
Rachel (Maria) was born in New Jersey. Her mother is of Colombian descent and her father is of Polish descent. I really doubt that Rachel was traveling anywhere outside of USA until promotion and was never in Latin America. Yet claims to be latina, because mommy has some lose connection to Colombia.
Ariana (Anita) was born in North Carolina. Her mother is white, her father is an Afro-Latino Puerto Rican. She was raised by her single white mother. Which means she had no connection to her puerto-rican father.
And I suspect that parents of both women were born in USA too. Yet they claim they are Latinos ))))
Its basically when Hilaria Baldwin pretended to be Latina or Spanish when she knew the language and was often visiting Spain.
Them doing fake accent - is the same as brown face in first movie. Spielberg should have cast real latino people, you know who were actually born in Latin America and have actual accent. Its truly hilarious that no one is calling them on it. At least Camila Cabello was actually born in Cuba and can call herself latina.
Rachel Zegler can easily claim she is Polish (after her father). And Ariana DeBose is more European after her mother. Yet both use latino cards and fake accent....
Yeah and guy who plays Bernardo was born in Canada and faked his accent too. All Latinos are fake in this movie. That Greek guy from original looked more like Latino that any on the new cast
