So what were your twist predictions? (SPOILERS, obviously)

A lot of people say they suspected from the beginning that the "grandparents" weren't really the kids' grandparents. I personally didn't see that coming until pretty close to its actual reveal. Because of the grandma's vomiting, I thought it was going to be some kind of demon-possession thing, because it reminded me of The Exorcist. I almost think that might have been a red herring, because that was some seriously projectile vomit. And the way she crawled under the house - it looked super-human. It was way too fast and agile for an elderly woman. She looked like a crab or something. So that also made me think there was something supernatural going on.

I also theorized that the grandma was just an evil person doing some kind of experimenting on the grandpa (because of their work at the hospital counseling, maybe she wanted to make a name for herself as a psychologist), and that's what made him act strange and poop himself, whereas she was just plain evil.

I also thought maybe they really weren't evil at all, and it was going to be a story about not letting your imagination get the best of you or something. Maybe they would have killed the grandparents in self-defense, only they didn't actually need to.

Also, with the mom having done something to the parents she wouldn't 'fess up to, I thought maybe she dabbled in black magic to get them on her side about her boyfriend, only it backfired and turned them evil. That wouldn't explain why she said the grandparents were free to tell the kids what she did if they wanted to, but I'm sure M. Night could find a way to explain it.

I thought the mom knew her parents were evil and were trying to get rid of her kids cause her boyfriend hates kids and she's desperate to land a man.

I never imagined the old couple was fake. M. Night exploits our suspicions of old people as well as our belief that they are essentially harmless. Until I saw the old woman wielding a knife I never thought they'd harm the kids.

During the projectile vomit scene, I thought the grandmother was possessed by a demon.
During the scene where the grandmother wields a knife and growling I thought she was turning into a werewolf or at least acting animal like and going around eating people in that animal like state.
Near the end of the movie when the grandparents start mentioning some mythological being, I thought they were aliens imitating the original grandparents and sacrificing the kids to their alien god.
Up until the ending I thought the grandfather was sane and protected his wife from the cops.

I gave the film too much credit. I fully expected the twist to be that there was actually nothing wrong with the grandparents at all. My thought was that through the kids' imaginative perspectives, they would warp and exaggerate their grandparent's actions into more than what they were -- and I thought there would be an explanation for all those strange things at the end. Now that I think about it, I think that would have been a better movie.

I didn't have any clear predictions about the twist. But I thought there would be more about the ban to go out the room after 9:30. The poster of the movie seemed to imply that this ban is a major part of the plot. So I expected that the grandparents would be doing something very important at night. But it turned out that nothing really special was happening after 9:30 - the grandparents were just as crazy during daytime, as they were during the night. Still, I enjoyed the movie and was pleased with the twist.

My first prediction was wrong, and then kind of right too.

From the beginning I tought that they were complete strangers, including the house etc. just elaborate kidnappers if you wil... but as the kids enter the home, they mention the grandfather clock that their mum had talked about etc. and so I figured I was way off...

I think the final reveal was very interesting but I also felt a little meah, as Shamalanadondong used supernatural elements in his storytelling. I properly would have preferred aliens, wear wolfs or such (yes I know, razzie awards likely too).

Just watched the movie last night on Cinemax. Only clues I had prior to the events of the movie were from the trailers and TV commercials, avoiding any movie reviews or anything that would spoil the movie for me. There were two twists that I came up with, both based off the comment in the ads that the kids had never seen their grandparents.

The first thought I had was that it was some sort of cult sacrifice thing where the old couple the kids were visiting weren't their parents but some sort of demon or alien cult that parents sent their kids to to sacrifice them or something.

The second thought I had before watching the movie was that the kids somehow got picked up from the train station by the wrong grandparents or something.

After watching the movie and thinking about my second prediction on the twist, either I've been watching too many movies or movies are getting dumber.

About half-way through the movie, when I noticed they never Skyped showing the mom and Nana/Pop together, then the story about the asylum having seen the couple for awhile, and the couple hardly ever talking about their "daughter." those were the clues that had me thinking these aint their grandparents...

After watching the scene where Nana vomits uncontrollably, I assumed the grandparents were aliens LOL

I thought the Grandma was a werewolf.

*The moon thing is the first clue.
*The way she crawled really fast both under the porch and at night in the house.
*Her walking around naked that one night.
*She found the camera because her senses are heightened. She sees better as a wolf.
*When she had the girl go in the oven so she cook actually cook her.

So it was basically a creepy version of Little Red Riding Hood in my mind. As far as the grandpa I just thought he was embarrassed at the diaper thing and put them in the shed to hide it from the kids. I thought he might be a wolf to might not be but the grandma for sure.

But I think the twist was great. That part with the girl coming back saying they counseled her, I thought surely she would say to the kids how they act weird or something.
