What the hell happened to Stacey?

I need closure. Dead? Alive? Running for her life in the woods?

reply

She was seen hanging from a tree when they went to open the door for "outdoor footage" before Yahtzee.

reply

Oh man. Thanks. Rewatched and saw that scene. Jeeze, you turn your back for 5 seconds, lol!

reply

I want to know who dafuq got her up there in the first place?

reply

Pop pop, because "he is strong like a wrestler"

reply

The real grandparents hadn't been to work for more than a week. Their counseling practice was unattended. Stacey was concerned for them.

Bored now.

reply

Thanks, lexylady. But then, wouldn't Stacey have known these two weren't the real grandparents? On what pretext did she think they were in the house?

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

reply

She never saw them. Both times someone stopped by to check on the grandparents they were conveniently out for a walk.

reply

Are you sure? The kids saw and filmed her arguing with the grandparents from the window. Then they led her round the back of the house. And the brother asks his sister about her, because they didn't see her leave. The next time we see her, she's hanging from a tree.

My point is that it's pretty typical Shyamalan; he doesn't let Stacey respond to these intruders the way her character actually would, because he doesn't want the audience to know (yet) that there's anything amiss. But it's ridiculous for the character not to be saying, "Who the hell are you?", or even to recognise them as (presumably) escaped "residents" from the insane ward.

Sorry, I completely missed that scene. I do remember the brother commenting that they never saw Stacy leave and figured something bad happened to her but didn't think she had an on camera confrontation with them.

I also completely missed the fact that pop pop shoved a diaper in the kids face so maybe I just wasn't paying much attention at all haha.

And if you were listening the girl clearly stated that it looks like they're arguing, which they were. Stacey most likely found out that they were not the real couple so therefore they killed her by hanging her.

I think she knew who they were. She was getting in-patient counseling herself - which we know by her mention of the kids' real grandparents staying in her room all night - and the fakes were patients too. We don't really hear what the three of them say, but it seemed like she knew them to me by how they interacted.

reply

I agree that she knew who they were and asking what they were doing there and where were the real grandparents. They then took her around the back supposedly to take her to them but was killed to keep her from raising an alarm.

This. That's how I took that scene. I felt bad for her in the end when they sawher hanging like that. I had a feeling she was killed but I didn't know how she was.

Question is, what kind of facility was this where someone like Stacey, who seemd pretty normal, was mixed in with these murderous whack-jobs? What was Stacey getting counselling for (did I hear something about drugs or rehab?)?

If it was drugs/rehab, why were Fake Grandparents - who clearly had some serious issues going on - in the same place?

At that age of the grandparents, it was most likely a private practice for them. Probably took in all kinds of people.

I was in a really tame mental ward at a hospital for about 4-5 days once (suicide watch for me, I think one guy had PTSD, so not criminal level stuff). We weren't allowed to have shoelaces, stuffed animals, metal cutlery in the cafeteria, and there were some restrictions on pens. Our meds were strictly regulated, guards kept an eye on us all the time.

If the fake grandparents were in a mental ward, they probably would've been medicated to keep down their homicidal tendencies (they may have never committed violent crime before) and they certainly wouldn't have access to ropes, axes, guns, and knives. The old lady did drown her children because she thought aliens told her to, but that's not the same as jumping on someone while snarling and trying to bite and choke them.

Maybe the rehab people were in one wing and the crazy old folks in the other, my adult hospital group would pass the equivalent teenager group on the way to the cafeteria.

My question is: how did they escape?

There is no objective reality... and that's Sucker Punch

Two unrelated comments on this:

I know it's not intentional but when the mom was talking about what her parents thought of her husband, I thought she said "inpatient eyes," so Stacey mentioning inpatient treatment later sort of made me laugh and realize my mistake.

I also thought she may have recognized them from the hospital, but I'm doubtful that inpatient drug addicts would be in the same environment as convicts or mental patients with a history of violence.

You don't make any sense because Stacey arguing with them is her responding to the intruders the way her character actually would. You don't know what they were saying and part of what they were saying was probably, "Who the hell are you?".

She was killed by the old crazies, hung up and put on display in front of the backdoor. You gotta watch a little more carefully with movies like this.
