That those actually WERE their grandparents, and the mother deliberately told them they weren't to throw them over the edge and have them kill the grandparents, since we were told throughout the movie that the mother and the grandparents had such a strained relationship.

Anyone else?

I thought the twist is that the grandparents had some kind of zombie-like virus that made them unable to consume normal food. They were cannibals or something, and were going to try to eat the children and the neighbors.

Damn, you probably have Shyamalan kicking his desk over this. I would have actually enjoyed that plot better... what a very dark twist.
