Cast
It wouldn't be a movie for "modern audiences" without the obligatory forced diversity β including the stereotypical fat obnoxious woman of color.

shareObese black and middle aged lesbian woman. That's the typical Minecraft target customer...π
shareLooks like a good cast to me.
shareIt's only good if you are woke.
shareIf by woke, you mean not racist or sexist, then I am woke and that is good.
shareBy woke I mean someone who thinks it's fine for the casting to be determined by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion department.
shareI want the best actors possible for the role. Danielle Brooks is an Oscar nominee and she was fantastic in The Color Purple. Minecraft; The Movie is lucky to have cast her.
shareBut youβre not getting the best actors. By that, I donβt mean they lack talent β I mean theyβre simply not right for the role. It doesnβt matter how many Oscars sheβs won, she still feels out of place. She wasnβt chosen for her skill but to tick a diversity box. Traditionally, these roles went to White women, but thatβs no longer allowed. You're not allowed to have homogeneous casts anymore, even when depicting families that should logically have two White parents and White children. Now, one parent has to be a different race, and the kids have to be mixed. It feels artificial and frankly, itβs obnoxious
shareYou are assuming that she is not right for the role, but you have not seen the movie or read the screenplay or talked with the director or producer or any of the cast. You know nothing about this film except for a short trailer, but you are already assuming she is wrong for the role.

shareMaybe, but who cares?
Hard to give a shit about a movie based on a lame kids game.
I don't care about this particular movie for the reason you mentioned β it would probably suck even if it didn't have forced diversity β but still I'm tired of seeing the cast of every movie/show being determined by the DEI department.
shareWhy do you assume that the cast was determined by DEI? Maybe the casting director saw The Color Purple or Orange is the New Black and was impressed with Danielle Brooks and wanted to cast her because she is a good actor.
shareShe doesnβt fit in this role. She feels completely out of place. What parent in their right mind would have their two White children around someone like her? Unless, of course, sheβs supposed to be their adoptive mother β in which case, see my previous reply about mixed families and DEI.
shareExactly, this looks like diarrhea either way
