I spent $22 to see this in IMAX

Don't do what I did.

In fact, nothing in your life will change whatsoever if you don't see this movie at all.

I boycott Cruise's movies

reply

He was huge in my house when i was a kid
Then all the weird public stuff happened and like you i just stayed away
But i recently revisited some of his films and i gotta admit...this guy is a superstar and i just cant hate him-
Charismatic, great action actor, smart script choices, etc
I kinda love this dude ...

reply

I don't care about Cruise, but the movie is really nothing new or fresh. Twenty years ago it would have probably been novel, but at this point you really won't miss out on anything at all if you don't see it.

reply

Thank you for heads up

reply

Not a big fan of Tom Cruise as a person and I find his views misguided for sure but I don't care enough about him to boycott his movies. I go to a lot of movies and if one of his looks good I'll see it. That being said I rather liked this film but definitely wouldn't classify it as a must see.

reply

Honestly I'm not trying to be a smart-ass asking this but if you boycott his movies why are you posting on the message board for this film?

reply

I want to embolden more people to boycott those who support cults.

reply

Why do you feel the need to do that? Do you only boycott for this reason? Or do you boycott other people's movies for various reasons?

Also, if you are a movie lover don't you feel like you are missing out on some great movies? His films are always top notch and entertaining.

reply

Roman Polanski

reply

There are so few movie actors that I can stand any more ... I realize just how corrupt Hollywood is ... it makes me sick to contribute to this garbage.

reply

Hollywood is also a cult.
One that overpays makers of crap movies and looks the other way while fat executives jack off into potted plants and molest children.

Should we just boycott the whole damn town?
I'm down.

reply

>> I boycott Cruise's movies

YES! It is time Americans starting thinking about where they send their hard-earned money and where it ends up and what it does. Our money has put Donald Trump in the White House to mess even more with our lives .. what's next Tom Cruise for President. These people are phonies and greedy selgfish pigs that never do anything for anyone else.

reply

I would feel burned if I had paid $22 to see it too. Pointless to see in IMAX. I paid $8.75 and walked into Stronger afterwards.

reply

I normally do see two movies if I shell out for a ticket (once I even did three in the same night), but this time I got to the theater too late to do that, and needed to wake up reasonably early the next day.

If at least I was able to see another movie, I wouldn't have felt like it was such a waste.

I don't think this movie is worth a trip out of the house, really, let alone any money.

Well, also, I gotta add: no such thing as $8.75 movie theaters in NYC. :)

reply

Glad to know a fellow theater sneaker. It was a matinee price but I know what you mean about NYC prices.

reply

I always make a point of watching movies in IMAX whenever possible (off the top of my head, this year alone I saw Dunkirk, Wonder Woman, Spider Man, Kong: Skull Island, Guardians of the Galaxy and Pirates of the Caribbean on IMAX, and I already have my IMAX ticket for Blade Runner) but for this one I didn't think it was going to be worth the extra money. I saw it for $6 on Cheap Wednesdays at the theatre near my work instead.

reply

I suggest you see Chasing the Dragon. Way more entertaining than American Made though it is in Cantonese with subtitles. Both deal with drugs.

reply

Maybe as a second movie. I wouldn't go to a movie theater just for that.

reply

I thought this film was OK - especially when compared the Cruise's latest subpar films.

reply

It was entertaining, but as I said above, there was nothing new or fresh about it. It wasn't really worth getting out of the house for, let alone paying so much money for the ticket. I did not feel that I got my money's worth. And, as I stated above, I do not feel that I would have missed out on anything special if I hadn't seen this movie at all.

And btw, that 87% it got on Rotten Tomatoes is way too generous and quite misleading, IMO. I would say this movie's true rating is around 65-67%.

reply

To be fair... I torrented it. I don't watch movies in movie theaters and there are plenty of AAA films that I fastforwarded through. In fact, I'm surprised when there's a movie in which I don't fastworward at least parts of the film.

This film? I fastforwarded just a few times for a few seconds.

Also, it should be noted that this film, while well made, is not that different from a bunch of other films (some of which are very recent), where the uncle Sam pays money to some vigilantes to transport weapons to one of the USA's 'government overthrow' operations with a tragic ending for the said vigilantes. If you had seen those films (I can recall at least 3 other films following the exact same storyline), then indeed - there's no point in seeing this film.

87% rating is way too high, agreed.

reply

I only torrent movies when 1080p Bluray rips are available with DTS sound. Can't watch in non-HD anymore.

What's AAA?

reply

And you find those ... where?
Almost never see better than herky-jerky 720p.

reply

On a Russian site. I can read Russian, but the movies have the original English audio track as well.

reply

saw it using moviepass, cost was minimal

reply

Speaking of MoviePass, I ordered mine more than two weeks ago now, still haven't received it. I wonder if I am gonna have to dispute the charge with my credit card.

reply

their customer service sucks, and sometimes the app doesn't work, but seeing unlimited films a month is nice

reply

I can't do what you did.
You saw it in IMAX while that was still possible.
Now I never will.
The movie came and went under my nose before I even noticed.
I'd gladly pay $22 to see it in IMAX just for the flying scenes.

reply

Eh, you really haven't missed much.
