Best musical score since Lion King

Unlike the annoying songs from Frozen which was only geared towards little girls under the age of 12. If the scene indsie the cave didn't give you chills better have your pulse checked lol

Agreed. I have been listening to the soundtrack since the 2nd. I can't get enough.

I love the way you laugh.

Not a chance. I can't speak for the songs of the other films, but there's nothing in Moana in the stratosphere of "Can't Wait to Be King", "Be Prepared", "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Circle of F'n Life". Those songs can be played, for the most part, outside of the movie without directly referencing the movie itself. Moana's songs don't work independently of the film.

I'd say they do. "You're welcome" is totally an earworm.

Yep, I'd say Where You Are, How Far I'll Go, We Know the Way, You're Welcome, and even Shiny to an extent all work plenty well outside the context of the movie itself 

I mean, heck, I listened to the soundtrack before I ever saw the movie and loved it to death, so clearly it's not like it's JUST the context of the scenes that makes the music enjoyable! Even the later stuff that's more reprise than anything is still beautiful no matter what, though I will say those are the ones that definitely take on a lot more meaning when you see it in context. But that's just because it's a well done musical where the music enhances the plot in its most emotional moments.

I guess I don't need a soundtrack to be independent of the story. My favorite songs and songwriters are storytellers.

reply

To be honest, I considered Moana's score to be underwhelming. Not bad, just not as spectacular as Disney's best scores.

reply

There is a difference between the score and soundtrack. So far, no one has named a single song from the score.
