Unlike the annoying songs from Frozen which was only geared towards little girls under the age of 12. If the scene indsie the cave didn't give you chills better have your pulse checked lol

shareI don't know. I thought the music was one of the weaker aspects of Moana to be honest. It definitely picked up alot for me once Dwayne Johnson's character appears, though.
shareMan those drums got me. And the ethnical adlibs gave me chills through my body. I felt like I was back on vacation in Hawaii lol That scene inside the cave is one of the best musical performances I've scene in a Disney movie.
shareI think I agree- or at least it's probably my FAVORITE score since The Lion King :) (Hunchback, Mulan, and Tangled all did have wonderful scores though, but I find myself going back to the Moana soundtrack more than those ones).
The more I think about it, the more I'm wondering if some people are feeling underwhelmed by the score just because a lot of the songs weren't made to be super big and sing-along-y. Where You Are, How Far I'll Go and You're Welcome are more in that vein, but most of the others are about lending themselves to the atmosphere, and I think they do their job stunningly. I love how culturally rich the music is, and how beautifully it adds to the ambience of the animation.
I've been saying that We Know the Way reminds me of Circle of Life, and it does, but I realized that it also reminds me of the flying scenes in How to Train Your Dragon! Particularly the first flying scene in How to Train Your Dragon 2 with Where No One Goes, where the music just swells and fits so perfectly with the brilliant soaring visuals and it gives you such goosebumps. That's the kind of feeling We Know the Way gave me as well And Know Who You Are, also, is a perfect example of a song that's simple, short, and sweet, and is absolutely brilliant in how it contributes to the beauty of that scene.

My sister who took her kids as well leaned over to me and said "kind of have a How to train your Dragon theme" I actually never had the chance to see the film. Circle of life came to mind immediately! It also shows you the connection of the world. The ethnical adlibs sounded very sumilar to African tribal music. I was totally impressed. As a father sitting through Frozen was torture lol Our girls are older now have out-grown that phase thankfully. My oldest who's 15 was more into it then then my 12 and 10 year old lol
shareI honestly felt that other than "Let it Go" the songs in Frozen were pretty much "yeah, whatever". I didn't mind listening to them while watching the movie, but I didn't need them on my iPod. I liked the songs in Moana better. I absolutely loved the score that played when she discovered the boats in the cave.
shareI suppose Moana is the best total package regarding music. I still think Frozen's songs are very good, but it's instrumental score is maybe just okay. I actually like Tangled's music more than most, especially it's underrated score. From a pure song perspective, I think Moana could easily be right up there with The Little Mermaid and Frozen in quality. As for score, that's something this new era, excluding Pixar, hasn't quite been able to get done as well. Of course, I haven't listed to Moana's score on it's own yet, so we'll see what happens.

Do yourself a favor download it. It sounds even better in the car. However to each its own. I rank this up there with Lion King. I still think Lion King is in a class by itself. Little Mermaid wasn't bad either. Frozen was the smartest and the reason being its memorable songs was very catchy and simplistic therefor children ate it up immediately. That being said as parents it became overbearing hearing "do you wanna build a snowman" on road trips lol
I guess I'm a little bias towards Moana because I'm just a sucker for a drumline and ethnical adlibbing. Can't wait to see these songs performed on stage. I said we were done with going to Disney World... they pulled me back yet again lol
Strange, from your response it would seem I said something bad about the Moana soundtrack when I didn't. Oh well, just the same, I will definitely be blaring this one in the car for quite a while. Like I said, this one will join The Little Mermaid, Tangled, and Frozen as a definite rotation soundtrack.

shareNo way. No Disney film of the 21st century has been able to match the orchestrations of Menken, Ashman, and Schwartz. Moana can't touch Pocahontas or The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I think my favorite score of the most recent batch is Randy Newman's for The Princess and the Frog.
shareI have to revist those films especially Pocohohontas. My oldest is now 15 and it's been a while since I've seen it. You're not the first to mention this one.
shareI really like Moana, but Hunchback and the Princess and the Frog were stellar also and the last two Disney animated soundtracks that I enjoyed listening to repeatedly. But I'm seriously considering buying Moana.
