Just seen it, not that impressed.

Franco does a good job, but the funny bits are kind of too well known already.

I haven't seen it yet but am looking forward to it. Do you think it's possible that you're overestimating how well known those parts might be? The movie has a rabid cult following for sure (I'm somewhat part of it) but outside that there are many more people who have never seen The Room and know very little about it. I guess what I'm asking is; if you had never seen The Room, do you think you'd have rated this movie much higher? Or would it not make much of a difference in your opinion?

I saw The Disaster Artist this afternoon and I think that if you've never seen The Room then you're probably just not going to really get the movie. I mean, you'll understand the plot, but there's going to be a lot of stuff that is lost on you.

Isn't that the whole point? To PROMOTE the original The Room movie? Add to its cult appeal? In that case, I'd say it succeeded. I really want to see The Room now.

I suppose then it'll be more enjoyable for those who haven't seen The Room and don't plan to (I tried watching five minutes of it one time and couldn't go on).

I just finished watching it and I had no idea about anything about the movie, went in totally cold.

I did not even know that was James Franco until well over half way into the movie.

I can say, viewing without any pre-knowledge, the film is kinda cute, maybe a 6/10, not the 8 something currently on IMDb, but high initial ratings are typical for new releases on IMDb

That's true. I think the strongest comedic aspect of this movie, is actually, Franco's performance. That was what I was laughing at the most, Franco trying to be Wiseau, and doing pretty good at it.

Now, in the movie's defense, I really liked to see how the production of the movie came about, and the dynamic between Tommy and the rest of the crew.
