After we find out that Amanda is pregnant, she asks Eric to take custody. Would you do it? Personally, no way in hell would I want him/her near me. The kid would only be a reminder of the person who killed my wife. Nobody should live with that and it was even worse that Amanda was guilt tripping Eric into raising him. She has no one to blame but herself for causing that.

Well, NO! I mean we are not robots, we're humans, that's why you think before asking your nice guy brother to take care of your child after you've killed his pregnant wife. Though I'm not sure I liked his wife much either, she was quite eerie about the whole Lolita thing she pulled off back then. Gross... abnormal behavior there... why encourage predators unless you're a bit ... anyway... television...
Anyway, I'm glad Eric held up to his own code of standards, set the boundaries, etc etc. People can easily find manipulative and emotionally harmful ways to try and cross those boundaries because they believe nice = weak/easy target, you need to ditch people like that, FAST!

Realizing this is not the same, but if my sister was an idiot, depressed, or substance controlled, I'd try to get custody of her children for their sakes even if she didn't want to give them up. Until she got healthy again. I wouldn't allow her or anyone else harm them.
Some have such a low esteem they create reasons to hate everyone else.
