Juliette Lewis is seriously EMMY worthy!!

In Season 2, Juliette is A BEAST!

Week after week, she nails this bitch-face, tough guy role, as if she really IS Detective Cornell.

Best Supporting Actress in a Network Drama.

But there is not real acting. She has locked in on the character the first episode and since then there is nothing great about her performace. Just her face as if she is chewing a lemon, her badly written dialogue, and the whole stiffness of the show. If that gets a nomination, everything slightly above daily soap level has to get a nomination.

Clearly you stopped watching after the first episode, because she has since evolved this character into someone who actually has feelings....making this "tough bitch" role even more fascinating.

And the person with feelings still looks lite chewing on a lemon and shows the same aggression all the time. In one of the last episodes she was supposed to be desperate, but that were just her words. Her expression: still the same.

Like I said... you're not watching. If you were, you might have noticed her artfully forcing a smile, and recently getting teary eyed.

Or maybe you're just too attached to your own closed-minded opinions to see what is really happening.

Or maybe I just watch what is visible on the screen instead of desperatly trying to find nuances which are simply not visible in that sloppily executed show. Maybe I am just not fanboy enough and my wishful thinking is simply not enough to lure myself into the blissful ignorance necessary to consider that crapfeast as "artful". But, yep, we have all different standards, and if there will be an Emmy for subpar performances judged by people who have not a clue about acting, I am sure they will want you to sit in the jury.

Riiiiiiiiiight....and that's why you watch it every week....and that's why you write about it online..... because you love "crapfests"??? What a dikk.

Uuuuh, first you are angry because you think I don't pay attention, now you are angry because I pay attention. And because it is so blatantly obvious that Lewis performance is nothing special, you prefer to concentrate on your anger. Telling.

reply

I agree

Cornell does have the best case of resting-bitch-face I have ever seen. It's crazy because Juliette Lewis is so attractive when not in character.

I haven't seen anything extraordinary in her performance. Her stoicism isn't nearly as entertaining nor believable as Mary Lynn Rajskub's portrayal of an autistic character in '24.'

I always liked Ms. Lewis. However, this character annoys me.

I don't think that 24 is in the running for any awards this year. LOL

Funny thing is that when a likable actress becomes seriously annoying, some might call that great acting. Just a thought.

reply

LOL You're funny.

The detective character isn't.

There's nothing notable about this performance. She doesn't elicit intimidation, anxiety, relief or anger. I didn't feel her sadness over her partner. I didn't feel her angst regarding her daughter.

I don't sense anything between her and her husband. He's a psychiatrist. Is she supposed to be a sociopath? Was that the basis of their bond?

On-screen, she's only a nuisance -- totally ineffective. She hasn't found anything. She hasn't obtained a confession. Because her character's been virtually useless, she shouldn't be on camera as much.

The little window into her private life was meaningless. I didn't care about her before and care less about her now. The only thing that made her slightly interesting was when her boss The Major told her new partner to report back to him about her. Yet that's gone nowhere since.

[phfft] I don't miss her when she's not on camera. When she's on, I wish there was less of her.

Great acting has apparent entertainment value. Just a fact.

HOWEVER, I don't blame Ms. Lewis IF she's portraying the character as scripted and directed - unless she's the writer and director.

If she didn't win an Oscar for her performance in JEM then she will probably never win an acting award in her lifetime.

reply

I loved her eye batting at the forensics guy. Or whoever he is. That was really good. Totally out of Cornell character but perfect.

reply

Agreed! Really love her in this role!
