Maybe I'm Just an Old Chauvinist, But . . . .

. . . how could Toby allow two young women -- one of whom he's openly declared his great love for -- to go into that oil pipeline to place those excessively large magnets and possibly drown when the flow re-started while he simply stood around looking at a computer screen safely outside? Surely Happy is computer-savvy enough to take care of that matter. Like I said, maybe I'm just an old chauvinist, but there's no way I could have sent them in and casually awaited the outcome in the bright sunshine and playful breeze. Steve V.

I'm with you man - but to get it done in time, it was a 2-person job, still requiring at least 1 female to guarantee success...

Well they have made it a point to repeatedly show Toby as being physically inept, and he has a habit of forgetting what he's doing physically because he's talking, both Happy & Paige can get distracted but by other people not by their own ramblings, plus Toby is the clutz of the team, if Paige & Happy had trouble in the slippery oil pipe then Toby would look like a new born dear trying to walk in a ice rink.

So yeah chauvinistic to assume that the women just for being women shouldn't have been doing the job, but fair point even pissed off Toby should have tried to take Happy's place because he loves her and it's a risk, plus doing so would lead to the inevitable putting down of Toby's physical abilities.

If Toby had volunteered, it's entirely possible that he would have gotten the "What, you don't think mere women can do this, that only a big strong man like you can handle it?" speech. I'm not saying that would definitely have happened but given the tension within the team at the moment, the potential was there. Time was of the essence so there wasn't time to get into that kind of argument. And I fully agree about Toby being a klutz... agility has never been his strong suit.

If Toby went in, the next logical person to join him would have been Happy, but they needed Toby to monitor the computers, too. Plus we would have gotten more relationship angst, and I don't think I'm the only one who believes that got pretty overboard between the two couples.

No wonder why Sly and Cabe were pissed off.
