I don't know if it's the character or the actor himself, but he just reminds me of bullies in high school even though he supposed to play the nerd. He's not like Temperance from Bones, who's socially awkward and say alot of inappropriate things but still endearing and funny. Walter is just annoying and arrogant.
Do you think another actor in the role would help? Or is it just how the character is written?
I don't agree. He reminds me alot of myself. Socially awkward and shy, lacking any social skills to the point where people think I am rude and up myself. Instead, I am just painfully shy and different and I panic when I am around people and do not know how to be or act. He is a refreshingly realistic portrayal of someone others believe is 'on the spectrum.' Usually these types of people are not over the top (aka Sheldon), but appear arrogant because they really have trouble reading social cues and not knowing what to say.
shareI also think Walter has a touch of Aspberger (spelling) the way he just blurts things out w/o thinking, which makes him seem arrogant but he's really got no social skills what so ever. I think believe it or not his character has gotten better, he still has a long way to go though.
