This is officially Scooby-Doo meets mission impossible

reply

seriously, what the *beep* were they thinking with this?? the plots are always ridiculous and completely implausible, but whatever, it's kind of fun. all the nonsense with the childish love triangle and now the hallucinations... just, no. stop it, PTB.

reply

This show has never even been in sight of the rails. Strangely makes it more enjoyable.

"Are you seeing this?"
"It's just a flying saucer, Ed. We gotta go."

I agree! It's totally outlandish, but it's a lot of fun to watch.

You have to go back to the old McGuyver to beat it.

"McGuyver, the lava flow is coming toward us and Jim's foot is stuck under this boulder."

"Quick, I'm going to need a toothbrush, a stick of chewing gum and a duckling..."

Yes! I totally understand why he needs the duckling. It has something to do with the greasy coating of the duck's feathers.
It's so nice to have other people on this board who get it. This is an action/adventure series, a genre not known for accuracy. There's a reason the phrase "Cannell physics" exists. It's a fun silly action show. It's "Macgyver" with some "A-Team," and a dash of "Mission Impossible."

You sharpen the toothbrush on a rock and stick it in the firm ground. You chew the gum use it to mount the duckling on the toothbrush and use the gum's foil to reflect sunlight that cooks the duckling. Then you relax and eat it while thinking up a new plan while the interns grease Jim's foot with the leftover duck fat.

A-Team was indeed another that made me laugh for its defiance of reality. The way they'd always have a parting shot that would reveal that the bad guys that they drive off the cliff or whatever were alive and well. Nobody was ever killed or seriously injured.

Have you seen the movie, Space Camp?

reply

I actually have "Space Camp" on DVD!! I love that movie, mostly because it IS completely over-the-top and is something that would never happen in real life. And that's precisely why I love "Scorpion"! There's no way the writers could come up with a mission for Team Scorpion that I would consider too outlandish. I admit that I'm getting bored with the soap opera romance angles but the core of the show just never gets old for me. I love the way the team members know what the other ones are thinking and can finish each other's sentences and even their thoughts. I've recorded every episode of the show and I'll continue to do so. This show is my only "must-see TV" at the moment.

reply

At least Space Camp had at its foundation a slightly realistic, albeit it totally far fetched, basis in reality. I know, I know it had many issues of its own, but there were some nuggets of potential truth there.
Scorpion, much like Donald Trump, exists in its own parallel universe. It's much like ours except science is governed by the imagination of mediocre Hollywood writers. If you accept that you can enjoy the show and take it for what it is: an escape from reality.

friends...... for..ev...errr

reply

I know. Can the writers at least get within a mile of reality? It's just comical, truly.
My favorite from this last episode was the size of the capsule. It was huge, like the size of my apartment. Give me a break. Or the conveniently placed (and labeled) override switch. That cracked me up!
I could go on and on...
I realize this show is fiction, but come on.

reply

Can't wait for the episode where in order to save the President of Argentina Walter has to jump over a shark.

reply

It has been since Episode One Season One, a Plane has an ethernet cable dangling from as they scream along in a car and attach it to a laptop to download backup software. A steward on the plane is on the landing wheels passing the cable down and a just met from a restaurant person in Paige is grabbing the cable from him through the roof of the speeding car.

If that didn't say what this show was going to be like from the beginning, I don't know what does, it is pure take the brain out escapist fun and I for one love having one show to watch that isn't so serious.

Yes! It's like the generation that grew up watching action/adventure series from the 1980s (and reruns of the 1960s Mission Impossible) are now in a position to write and produce the modern version of what they grew up loving. They're not mocking it or laughing at it. The series is unabashed apperciation and love for the older shows.
