LAPD escort for a nuclear reactor

Tonight's episode with a nuclear reactor is another episode of stupidity. They called for help on Thanksgiving and they are told that the quickest anyone could respond is 2 hours. Well the LAPD could have responded in 2 minutes, probably less. They would have a helicopter in the sky in minutes. The LAPD, CHP and LAFD (fire department) would have vast resources available by helicopter. They could have at least given them a police escort. They would have official vehicles and uniforms. They could have cleared the path for them. The LAPD, CHP and LAFD are on duty 24/7, even for Thanksgiving.

Yeah, but this is "Scorpian", what do you expect?
(This is what my wife says every week as she watches in disbelief)

reply

I expect the producers to get better ratings by replacing the writers.

reply

doubtful the producers know any better. Nick Santora and Alex Kurtzman aren't known for following normal human logic, and the writer is the real life Walter O'Brien himself, he can embellish his own character as much as he wants to. it's like trying to tell Jesse Ventura his conspiracy theories are full of holes.

He its Scorpion, just like MacGyver you have to take it with a pound of salt. Loved the Back to the Future quote "they found me, i dont know how but they found me" just like Doc Brown said when the Libians found them. LOL

reply

Except for this show the producer (that this show is also about) claims to be a super-genius, perhaps (supposedly) the smartest in the world. So stupidity is not a valid explanation for blatant mistakes. Intentional contradiction of the definition of the show is a valid explanation.

reply

claims. people claim to be many things. doesn't make it true. considering his show and his character's self-aggrandizing narcissism, he's likely a diagnosed Asperger's sufferer.

--anti-dubber.

reply

I can't find anything saying he has Asperger's and he failed to say he does when he was asked. If you are aware of anything beyond speculation that he has Asperger's then it would help to provide that, otherwise we can assume you are just categorizing all geniuses as Asperger's sufferers.

If you are wondering why my response is so strong, I think it is just that I don't like speculation. It does not matter to me if Walter O'Brien is an Asperger's sufferer, I just want the truth, regardless of what it is.

reply

no, i'm not saying he has Aspergers, i'm saying he's a narcissistic self-indulgent person who's pulling crap out of his pompous ass to look good for the TV show. you do know the TV show is pure fiction right? just like i'm not a trained psychiatrist, i'm just some guy on the internet saying he's fluffing himself. i don't really care if he is or he isn't. and if your next reply is to ask me for proof that he's fluffing himself then i have no idea how to talk to you.

You obviously have not read all the discussions here because if you had then you would know that you are preaching to the choir.

reply

if that's the case then your expectations are just wishful thinking. *sigh*

Don't mix with reality. Bad things will happen. Enjoy the characters, laugh at the absurdity. Much like first season of The Following.

All though this was really high on their absurdity scale in almost every direction. They've really set the bar high now.

reply

I am trying to improve the show and you are trying to change me, right?

Well, I think you are being mostly humorous, much like me. Other members tend to take me too seriously.

It is obvious they want to be stupid since they abuse XML (the syntax of XML that is) in the opening credits, as in "</Producer>Someone<Producer>" or something like that (that is similar to XML but is improper syntax for XML).

reply

The attempt was at being humorous, yes.

However in all seriousness any attempt at making the show obey the laws of nature, physics, logic or commonsense would not improve the show. Straight from the pilot, which was easily one of the top 5 most implausible episodes, the joy of this show has lain in its incredulity. If it were brought closer to reality it would collapse in on itself. Just my opinion but it's MY opinion. 

Most markup languages use some variant of the <></> tags but yeah Scorpion couldn't even get that right. Again, the beauty comes with laughing at it.

reply

The <></> tags are part of SGML. HTML prior to version 5 and XML are "applications" of SGML. I worked with the predecessor to SGML, IBM's GML, before SGML existed.

Great, now there are two boards where people bitch about technical accuracy in what is essentially a show for the masses.

And had they thought of getting LAPD involved, it wouldn't have been much of an episode, now would it.

Get all the smarter writers you want; it's irrelevant if they can't entertain the fans.

reply

Smarter writers can entertain better. They are likely to cost the producers more money however because they would get better ratings and the producers are not smart enough to understand.
