Some help - Cabe is? (Possible spoiler)

Haven't watched the show in a few weeks but caught the Christmas episode. Cable gave Ralph a pocket knife and said he wanted to give it to his grandson. When was that revealed, and how is Cabe Ralph's grandfather? Is he Paige's dad?

Just a little confused and any help is welcome.

Cabe got the knife originally from his grandfather and hoped to one day have a grandson to give it to. Cabe's only child is deceased.

Wow, I didn't realize his child,had died, I must've missed that. I do watch the show with an eye on other things, cleaning, cooking, etc, so I may have missed that.

The death of his daughter, Amanda, is what broke up his marriage. We see a picture of her in S1E02.
