In the beginning of tonight's episode "S3.E13 Faux Money Maux Problems" Cabe was going to shoot out a window to get fresh air and Walter said no, that the shot would cause a fire and explosion. Then they were going to try to crack the window with corks. What is the chance that Cabe would have something like a knife that would work better? Oh, wait; he has a gun; he could have just knocked out a window by hitting it with his gun (but not firing it). And someone is going to say that a gun would not be hard enough but it sure would be harder than corks!
If that was the only time that something like that was in the show then I would assume there was a good explanation like that. There have been so many things in the show however where it is obvious that the writers were not thinking that I am assuming this is another case where the writers felt no obligation to use their brains.

Little time has passed actually since he gave his knive to Ralph and may not have replaced it. Cabe doesn't seem the type to have extras of much and we're not even sure if he has even gone back home seeing that the last time we saw him was when he was impaled so he probably only had the bare necessities at Happy's. Everybody grabbing a bottle was probably quicker than him having to stop to unload a gun before using it for something other than its' intended purpose as leaving it loaded still runs the risk of it discharging.

I am sorry but I can't understand what you are trying to say.

He does to me and that is why I said what I said. He is a former Marine, right? He is the only one (other than Tim Armstrong who is out of the show) with training in combat and survival, right? That training is the main reason he is on the team, right?

Gone back home? They were abducted, the story would have been over if he got away. As I said, he is the type to have basic survival tools.

Not with the safety on and he is trained to keep the safety on.

In the episode Wreck the Halls Cabe gave Ralph a knife that Cabe originally got from his grandfather and hoped to one day have a grandson to give it to. Given that was only two episodes ago, Cabe may not have gotten a new knife to replace that one.
Cabe hasn't even been living at his own place for awhile. You don't bring excess stuff when you are living in someone else's place temporarily.
Let's not forget Cabe had been drinking heavily, so he shouldn't have been handling a gun anyway.
Probably the reason Cabe gave Ralph his grandfather's knife is that Cabe already had a better knife. However that is not relevant here since Cabe (whether he should have or not) had a gun that would be better than most knives (not better than Crocodile Dundee's knife) for this purpose.
Then they were going to try to crack the window with corks.
My impression of the scene was that it was the compressed CO2 in the champagne bottles that if released all at once (popping the corks simultaneously) would create sufficient pressure inside the limo to pop open the windows.
Yeah, sounds lame to me too but I believe that was what the writers were going for.
Well if the writers were trying to attain comic-book stupidity then they sure accomplished that.
I thought that Walter's genius idea was that all the corks hitting the window at the same time would break the window. Whatever it was supposed to be, it is comic-book stupidity.
I don't mind comic-book stupidity; I like Supergirl; I just want them to be honest about what the show is.
As I said above, I think what the writers were getting at is that the team was in the process of being gassed. They weren't thinking straight. Ergo all the stupid suggestions on how to break the windows. Hell they could have simply tried to kick them out.
