Page mother

I wonder who plays her in next week episode.

reply

Lea Thompson.

reply

It was great to see her.

reply

She looks fantastic, has definitely aged well.

So it goes.

reply

People don't age in just a couple of years.

reply

What a... weird reply.

GoodbyePorkPieHat said that she has aged well and I said people don't age in just a couple of years.

reply

Yup. And I said that was a weird reply.

But thanks for the recap...

I still don't understand why "People don't age in just a couple of years" is weird. It has been just a couple of years since she has been in Switched At Birth; do you expect people to show age after just a couple of years?

My original reply was to GoodbyePorkPieHat, who said "She looks fantastic, has definitely aged well" and that seemed strange to me since it had been such a short amount of time (relatively speaking) since I saw her.

reply

That's a strange response. I haven't seen this actress (Leah) since Back to the Future, and I was thinking two things watching her, and the first one agrees with the other poster in that she *has* aged well, she doesn't look over doctored, and the second was that she looked like she was having the most fun in this role than she has had in a while.

My point is, it's more than "a couple of years" since I've seen her last.

No, David. No one is happy in a poodle skirt and a sweater set.

reply

Criticizing her for aging during a quarter of a century is strange. She has done 30-40 movies and a few TV shows since then. I don't remember her in Back to the Future but I did see her in a couple of seasons of Switched at Birth, which was a couple of years ago. (I gave up on the show after a couple of seasons when the writing became awful.)

Note that GoodbyePorkPieHat provided no context; there is no indication of what year or show that Lea Thompson was being compared with. I corresponding provided no context. Now you can see how strange that is. People need to be more specific; sometimes people talk and talk and talk and provide too much detail but sometimes people are very quick to say something without thinking and that causes confusion. You thought my reply was strange because it was brief, vague and non-specific. If I had said she has not aged since Switched at Birth then it would not seem strange. Yes, vague comments can seem strange.

Lea Thompson looked great but I really didn't like her character. I especially didn't like how Paige was getting grief for not being all warm and fuzzy with a woman she feels betrayed her and her father (a feeling that's evidently justified). Walter still despises his father but that's not a big deal to Toby or anyone else but Paige is supposed to just forgive and forget 20 years of bad memories? If Veronica cares so much about Paige, why didn't she contact her during those years? And why not try to right her past wrongs by actually starting this contact with Paige by telling the truth for a change?

It's obvious that Veronica is going to be a recurring character and I hope she grows on me.

reply

Veronica said she was in a gated community - prison. Doubt she'd call Paige from inside jail. She might try to explain herself/reveal other crimes that she committed/wasn't charged or reveal a nest egg. Call when she's out of prison. Sample of call. "Hello Paige, It's me, your mom." -Paige hangs up.

Letters = Psige would see it was from Veronica/return to sender.

Can't go to her house, she might not know where Paige lives. Also, Paige would probably not let her in/have Police remove her for trespassing.

Only way she'd be able to make contact is the job request she sent to Scorpion/under a fake name.

reply

Where there's a will, there's a way. Isn't the mother thing supposed to be the most powerful force in the world? Veronica could have used a fake name on an envelope just to make sure Paige opened it. I know that's another lie but at least there would have been a viable reason for that one.

I just didn't like how Paige was made out to be the bad guy in this scenario and the rest of the team, even robot Walter, immediately took to Veronica. A real slap in the face to Paige.
